I'm at a loss as to how they could write Mike being so distraught at 12 years old that he was willing to walk off a cliff just to keep his friend from having his teeth cut out. Like, sorry, Dustin. I love you, but as bad as your teeth being cut out would have been, Mike dying would have been infinitely worse.
And I bet now they'd claim Mike was only so willing to do it because he was upset over El running off.
Seriously, though, this was such a horrific thing to have a kid do, regardless of the fact that he was saved. He did walk off that cliff and fall, completely ready to die. Then they just pretended it never happened. They acted like the only trauma Mike ever experienced was losing El, when he's really been through a lot more than that.
This is my problem with the new season and even arguably season four. Mike is a deeply troubled character, similar to the rest of the party. None of them had a normal childhood. All of them are lowkey suicidal at points. But for the majority of characters that and all of depth gets ignored in favor of their romantic interests (or in will’s case his underdeveloped powers and his sexuality), all of which weren’t even substantially explored enough this season to be interesting.
Where was Mike’s fear of becoming his father, of abandoning his friends or failing them. Where was his protective and loving nature outside suffocating El. Where was his hesitancy to show those emotions and care for others?! And the guilt he has shown to feel over that?! Where were HIS nonconformist tendencies and problems with authority?

Im gonna shill for Marie Kondo again but this is why I find her books (yes, books, the TV show is fun but ultimately misses a lot of the core ideas) so good.
A lot of home org advice fully misses this aspect. Kondo not only acknowledges it, but leans into it. And ultimately this helps motivste me to keep my space tidy - it's really hard to me to keep on the nebulous goal of self-care, but much easier to get up and put things away if I envision my salt and pepper grinders as like, retail workers who are now standing in an empty shop (my dining table) and just wanna go home (the spice rack where they live).

if sex work was legal the workers could unionize
I am fully serious about this btw. not "pro sex work" as in "there are no issues whatsoever within the industry", but "pro sex work" as in "these are jobs and the workers should be a) allowed to work and b) protected from their customers by the law"
people responding to this with stuff like "but that would just put sex workers in the same exploited position as uber drivers, cleaners, migrant workers, etc" and yes! good point! reform all of it! keep going!
Just a small note: in the part of the world where I live, legalizing sex work and decriminalizing sex work have two different meanings. (These are terms that have been developed by people who have spent decades working for sw rights and have been developed in response to the Nordic Model and other decrim/legalization efforts).
Legalizing sex work would work like any other legal but regulated industry like electricians, doctors, lawyers, etc.
Legalization is NOT the preferred solution because regulation means barriers to entry and opportunities to codify societal bias. People (not always but frequently) start doing sex work because there are very few barriers to entry and they need money fast. Additionally, the people who are most oppressed and are sex workers (black, trans, disabled women) would be disproportionately penalized by legislation.
The word we use to describe the legislative change we (sex workers) want, is Decriminalization or Decrim (shorthand).
Decriminalization means what people generally think legalization means: you can't be arrested or prosecuted for doing sex work.
This would mean that sex workers could continue our work without barriers or interruptions, would give us the autonomy to make our work places safer and give us legal ground to unionize/make our work places safer and allow victims of rape/assault/trafficking to seek justice.

life is not about making the safest most logically correct choice at all times. you're a blob of salty meat piloting a flesh mech and you get to act like it.
This is called dignity of risk and it's a big topic in disability rights spaces. id elaborate but im fuckin wiped
it's always funny how people will advocate for bodily autonomy when it comes to certain things but then shy away from anything they personally wouldn't do to their own body. like yeah, that's why it's your body buddy. i can do what i want with mine.

The lack of video content is what kept us here... I thought we all agree that the best feature of this hellhole was and always will be anonymity.
Tumblr's not asking for my phone number. It's not going through my contacts to try and connect me with my fucking colleagues. I can come here and talk about whatever I want without anyone ever seeing my face or hearing my voice. I don't have to censor myself and hide my interests or enthusiasm out of fear of consequences it might have in my real life.
I think the biggest misunderstanding they have of Tumblr is that they think of it as a social media platform when in actuality it's a blogging platform with social features.
I like the use of Metroman here because if there's one thing Tumblr users collectively agree on it's that we want everyone to think we're dead
You can cut past like 90% of gender essentialism by shifting from "men are like X because they're men, and women are like Y because they're women" to "people are held to different standards, given different amounts of criticism, grace, encouragement etc based on positionality and they change and grow as a result."
