To anyone that are writers, have any of you looked into the platform that is @ellipsus-writes ? It sounds pretty good but I haven't used it

Currently love and live by using Ellipsus. It's easy to use, and frankly the export feature makes it easy to transfer stuff.

It's also got a ton of free themes (that are a lot easier on the eyes than blinding white) you can use and it pretty much works like a Google docs but without any of the invasive AI bullshit. You can also have folks comment/collaborate on drafts and create multiple drafts that shows all your edits and suggestions. Really useful if you wanna keep track of versions and changes.

They also have a blog here on Tumblr, letting folks know about changes and what they're up to and what they focus on. Highly recommend you check them out.

I used it to write my undergrad creative writing thesis, so obviously I highly recommend them lol

self-awareness check, list five things you like that aren't media pieces in the tags now ‼️

Drawing, growing plants, long walks in the summer, sun catchers, rivers & ponds

You know what?

My ancestors would have wanted pasteurization, vaccines, antibiotics, disinfectants, birth control, psychiatric medications, pain management, anesthesia. My ancestors would have wanted to be able to keep their loved ones around longer, and not lose them too early/too soon to childbirths, injuries, bacterial infections, mental illnesses, and diseases that are curable and/or preventable in our modern day life.

Modern medicine saves lives.

I just watched a video about students getting their papers falsely flagged for using AI, even when they didn’t, and the advice was things like, “Leave in incorrect grammar,” “If you’re quoting something, don’t copy and paste it, type it out manually because it leaves a metadata trail that you used the copy/paste function and that's a flag,” “Write in the cloud so there’s a version history,” and the one that really got me, “if you find you write in a manner that can sounds too robotic or professional and it gets flagged, go to the writing center so a writing tutor can help you sound more humanly flawed,” and like what the actual fuck.

Like I get that is practical advice, but people should not have to fucking do that. They should not have to train themselves around not sounding like AI, when AI only sounds like that BECAUSE it was trained on them.

I spent so much of my life learning how to write, I shouldn't have to unlearn that because some computer algorithm learned from me.

this is ableism.

Dearest fellow writers,

I am genuinely curious how you are managing your time enough to post your works that literally contains an astronomical word count. Especially those who are in college and those with jobs. LIKE, ONE MOMENT YOU'RE GONE TO DO SOMETHING IRL AND THEN NEXT MOMENT, YOU HAVE POSTED ATLEAST THREE STORIES IN ONE DAY?!?#! Soo, please comment your secret technique for this busy writer who wants to be more active. Lovelots to all of your hardwork btw, absolute kudos to that. >.<

Work the in-between times.

Scrolling on your phone cause work is slow? Good time to get a lil chip in on the WIP. Worry about formatting later (or not at all).

30 minute wait in the dr's office? Lovely time to write what you see, what you feel, project onto Blorbos.

Ubering home? Ah yes, quiet time if you wanna write. You don't have to talk.

You don't even need to use your laptop, worry about formatting later, just get the shit down on a page first.

Working the in-between is being conscious of your time, and actively choosing to be aware of how much time you spend scrolling/browsing and turning it into writing time. That's how I managed to get my undergrad thesis done on top of everything else. Now I can use the time for new fics and new chapters.

Oh, it also helps to write now and post later after editing. It's OK to have time between big posting blocks, cause having a backlog just means you got more to share from if you so choose.

Hope this helps! Happy writing!

Writer confession/tip: Sometimes, if there’s something I really want to write but I’m lacking the motivation to actually complete it, I’ll send in that same thought/scenario/idea as a request to my own inbox, and it motivates me to write it as if I’m writing for somebody else.

Honestly that's a great idea though! I struggle with motivation from time to time myself, and haven't tried this, but maybe it'll help! Thank you for sharing this.

THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT POST. REBLOG IT IF YOU CAN.

Do it, no matter your ‘blog type’ because you never know who might need it

Wow. I wonder if there are numbers to call about anxiety and just chit chat.

the virgin loss.jpg versus the chad xkcd Seven Years

Don’t forget the latest version, Ten Years

@vividaway Randall Munroe is an internet cartoonist who runs the ‘xkcd’ online comic series, which has run from 2006 up to today, with new comics every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Xkcd isn’t an ongoing story, just a series of funny, wholesome, depressing, or oddly scientifically informative comics.

In 2010, Randall’s fiance was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer. He didn’t share too many details at first, but things tended to bleed into his comics: sometimes funny, sometimes sad.

Often in this time, other cartoonists would write in guest comics for Randall, or he’d put in short filler pieces, to try and fill space while nonstop cancer treatments took up most of his time.

In 2012, he posted a comic called ‘Two Years’, about the time since the diagnosis. It’s the one that hasn’t yet been posted here (although parts of it are included in the other comics), and it commemorates some of the things that had happened in the two years since the diagnosis.

There are representations of Randall and his fiance being together for her treatment, worrying together, traveling the world, and getting married. It’s still depressing, but it’s a lot more hopeful, showing how they’ve still managed to have happy moments together, and things will still get better.

Themes of cancer continued in xkcd, but they increasingly became less about fear and nihilism, and more about hope, or just cool facts related to cancer.

At the top of this post is the comic posted in 2017: Seven Years. In it, Randall and his wife are traveling more, trying to have fun and continue old and new hobbies, with cancer ever-present in the background of it all. At the end, the two of them observe the 2017 solar eclipse, and despite all the uncertainty that comes with the thought of another seven years, agree to watch the 2024 eclipse together too.

There are just about no cancer comics between that one and the most recent comic, the one I posted: Ten Years, written in 2020. It’s by far the most hopeful of the three in the little series: the two of them are happy, they’re playing with rabbits and riding on handcarts and going out hiking and stargazing, together. At the end, Ten Years breaks the format with a conversation in which they talk about how unbelievable it is that it’s been so long, and share their worries as well as their hopes. It even ends on a much more lighthearted joke about immortality.

It’s a good comic. Definitely in my top two comics wherein internet cartoonists express emotions about an illness suffered by their wife.

“The ten-year cancerversary is traditionally the Cursed Artifact Granting Immortality anniversary.” -Randall Munroe.

And now, at long last, Fifteen Years:
