The more-radical-than-thou "America has always been fascist" types really make it difficult to point out all of the ways in which America has materially gotten vastly worse for just about everyone within the last year. Like at this point I regard it as basically just a "leftist" way of telling people that they're overreacting and suffering from "Trump Derangement Syndrome".

giant redwood trees really are so cool, they just have something incredibly special going on. it's hard to describe if you haven't seen them

a certain je ne sequoia, if you will

i am massively overdue for a very very good week where not a single bad thing happens and everything is easy

reblog to give prev a very good week where not a single bad thing happens and everything is easy

I have to finish reformatting everything and adding an updated conclusion, but I'm working on getting this posted as a free guide on my Patreon page. I'm busy as hell today so I won't say exactly when it's going live, but I'm aiming to have it up by the end of the week. Patreon's text editor doesn't like it when I paste in big blocks of text, so everybody cross your fingers it doesn't keep freezing on me.

It took me longer than I meant it to, but this guide has officially been posted and is free for all to read! It also includes that NPD Jams playlist I was talking about in another post. 😀

If you like it or get anything out of it, I would be super stoked if you could reblog this post and help share it around. Thanks! <3

People have been so nice in response to this, omg??? Thank you all SO MUCH. I spent a long time on this and I'm so glad people are already finding it helpful. 💜

horror movies are so much scarier when the actors look like an average sampling of the human population. and the house is a little messy

when everyone has veneers and the house is pristine and tastefully decorated: (in the back of my mind) these people were hand-selected for visual appeal. this is a set. this is a story

when the actor has a little acne and there are dirty dishes in the sink: aaaaahhhhh this is just like Me and My House ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!

when everyone has veneers and the house is pristine and tastefully decorated: (in the front of my mind) these people had it coming

as an archivist I am begging you

  • put dates on everything
  • don’t believe digital stuff is preserved forever - if it’s really important (documents, photos, etc) print it out
  • name your files accurately I know it sucks but please
  • don’t destroy the original just bc you scanned it
  • rubber cement is the devil’s adhesive use photo corners and quit gluing shit
  • you will NOT remember write it down
  • if you staple things to the inside of a folder I will find you
  • your public library probably has equipment to digitize old media for free or can at least get you connected with somewhere that does!

whenever a white european gets on their high horse about “amerikkka” or whatever:

The americans are the current global hegemon, it is a problem created by europeans in the past, but given that the americanscurrently operate mass torture facilities, run concentration camps, and are bombing and invading countries to try and hold onto their dying empire, these are very different things.

Every country has racism, bigotry and inequality, almost every country done some horrific atrocities in the relatively recent past, and america's evil is not unique, make no mistake there.

The difference is that the empires of europe have fallen, america has not.

The americans continue their horriffic regime, they officially retain slavery, they invade any country they think even remotely threatens their dominance (and that they think they can defeat), they run concentration camps, they torture people for such crimes as "being vaguely ethnic".

These are acts seen by all empires. Because all empires are evil, it comes with the territory. What the americans don't seem to understand is that the crimes of the past cannot be undone, but the crimes of the present can be stopped.

Death to all empires, which right now means the americans.

Do not misunderstand, I do not claim that europe is innocent. Or that we're even doing particularly well. But the empires of europe are gone.

The scale and severity of current european crimes is nothing in comparison to the scale and horror of the current american atrocities.

In summary, simplified so even an american can understand:

Europe evil empire in past. Europe still doing some bad thing now. America evil now. America doing now what europe did a century ago, plus some extra bad things that hadn't been invented yet.

I hope this can make at least one person understand the difference, though i'm arguing with americans, a fool's errand even at the best of times.

see this exact condescending attitude is what pisses me off but I’m just a moronic little yank so what do i know?

I will admit to being more condescending than is helpful, however, you are a member of the most powerful empire on the planet that enjoys a level of superiority never seen anywhere else in the modern era, that commits atrocities for no better reason than (to cite their most recent) "the glorious leader needs to distract from the fact that he rapes children"

And you're complaining about how it's not fair that people criticize your empire's atrocities because their empires used to do similar things.

You do not even refute my points, you say "it's condescending", and while that may be true, I am also correct, which is vastly more important.

If you have any actual defence I'd love to see it, but I doubt you have anything you can say that will make kidnapping foreign presidents, running concentration camps, and the activities of guantanamo bay at all excusible.

okay first of all, you know absolutely nothing about my political beliefs and i think it's frankly laughable what you are assuming them to be. if you spent any time at all going through my blog, you would see that i absolutely loathe trump, the republican party, and everything he and they stand for. if you assume that all americans support trump and the actions of the us government both at home and abroad, you're just about as ignorant as you are accusing us of being.

i am not saying the united states' actions cannot be critiqued as god knows they should be (especially those of the current administration). the frustration i was trying to express in this silly little post is the fact that many europeans love to act high and mighty about the racism and violence and imperialism of the united states and act as if we're such barbarous idiots compared to them when in reality they are no better than we are. the united states is a direct descendent of the european imperialist powers, and there is nothing that the united states does today in that regard that was not prefigured in some way by europe.

and also, the idea that europe doesn't continue to benefit from imperialist exploitation of other nations is utterly absurd. the wealth and standard of living currently enjoyed across europe is a direct result of imperialist exploitation which continues to this day. for instance, france continues to utilize imperialist monetary policy to dominate its former african colonies.

finally, people often use this idea of the united states as being the ultimate evil imperialist regime to justify the crimes of rival powers such as russia and china. we see this consistently in the leftist reaction to russia's invasion of ukraine as well as authoritarian oppression in china.

i don't think i disagree with you as much as you seem to think i do, however, it does bother me when europeans refuse to see how what the united states does now is intimately linked with europe and that europe cannot just entirely wash its hands of it.

DAYS AGO an American was literally shot and killed point blank by a member of an unregulated police force, which has been released upon the American people. Many of whom, like Renee Good, are fighting hard to protect the members of our communities.

But right now what Americans need is Europeans to look down their noses and tell us we’re evil and all deserve to die.

Totally incorrect time to share an utterly uninformed, and frankly embarrassing take. You are a tar pit.

We can be forgiven for (and you should ignore) the systems we set up and (still) profit from, however YOU (young upstart) should suffer and DIE for continuing these systems! How dare you not invent new (nicer, more wholesome) systems! This is YOUR MORAL FAILING that we (innocent Europeans) have nothing to do with!

Oh what's that? You only read books with lots of "spice" in them? Well then I've got a great one for you, practically the whole plot revolves around "spice". Ahem. In the week before the departure to Arrakis,

i saw this sign in a bookstore and it made me laugh so hard :’)
