Unsure if you remember me - guy who switched both his gaming pc and graphic tablet setup to linux mint.

i went off the deep-end and got my hands on an old laptop And have tried 3 times now to install arch linux - i haven’t succeded yet but even failure feels rewriting in a weird way, especially figuring out what went wrong. I know i’m really close to getting it work. Next time for sure …. (Not really looking for advice just feel like you’d be happy to know the sinking effect of mint to arch is very real lol

Have they put on the thigh highs? Arch won't install if you're not wearing the thigh highs.

1lluminae-files

i have done my years in the thigh highs pre transition

Try cat ears then?

I want to know what off-roaders put their ditch lights through that requires this Mount to be this thick-

image

It's important to know that this is a Chromoly steel, All right? This is a different kind of overbuilt. This mounts to a 12 gauge bracket that is bolted into a 22 gauge body panel.

iamtheowls

I know double up plates are pretty common. Maybe if you want to be the nut bar running 4 12 inch rounds as ditch lights?

recoiloperated

This is specifically for a second generation Tacoma-

That would be more ditch light than windshield

iamtheowls

Yeah, many people are stupid and many cheap off road lights are awesome.

recoiloperated

While that is true, it also runs into the second problem with the second generation Tacoma- unless you upgrade the alternator, you only have 120 spare watts.

iamtheowls

Fair point, and probably not as easy a swap as doing the same to a clapped out GM.

recoiloperated

Yeah, I really do want to at some point swap the alternator, technically mine is running a little low (only .25 volts below nominal) because if I put a 50 watt radio in it, whenever I, it will overload the alternator.

salt-n-tigers

I did a lot of off-road stuff for a long time on the Oregon coast. Flimsy light brackets were prone to being bent and or ripped off by branches or blackberry vines etc. That’s the main reason they got beefed up like that. Plus overbuilt is the only way to make parts on your trail rig. Lightforce has some great aux lights that hold up to severe punishment but they’re pretty proud of them and the price tags reflects that. Sometimes adding a 2nd 12v battery is enough to run accessories without upgrading the alternator, something to think about.

recoiloperated

The price difference between the stock 80 amp and the oem high output 130 amp alternator is $30. I'm not sticking anything wild on it. Like some of those 270 amp alternators.

I'll also probably put a group 27 under the hood when it's time to replace the battery, I would do a group 31 cuz I can get really good ones at work for fairly inexpensive (I work with acme big ass Diesels), but people say the group 31 is too much and will cause the OEM battery tray to crack.

I've also considered grabbing a pair of group 4D batteries to drop in the bed in front of the wheel wells, But I'm not really doing anything that needs that much capacity. It's a two-wheel drive after all.

salt-n-tigers

Yea that all makes good sense. $30 for almost doubling the capacity without any other upgrades sounds like a huge win. 50 amps should run some lights and radio fine I would think.

recoiloperated

I probably will eventually go with a dual battery setup. I’m not going too crazy with the lights, but the stock alternator is very anemic. You only have about 9 amps of overhead at idle.

The most important advice I can give you when it comes to defensive shotguns is this:

TEST YOUR F#&@ING DEFENSIVE AMMO!

AT SEVERAL DISTANCES!

You need to know how it's going to behave. I test mine at 3, 5, 7, 15, and 25 yards. you'll note- that's 5 ranges, most defensive shotgun ammo comes in boxes of 5. I shoot 3 boxes. I use a fresh FBI silhouette target for every. Single. Shot. If a single Pellet drops at 15, it fails. If they're all in the silhouette at 25 they get my gold star.

The second most important advice I can give you is:

TAKE SOME MOTHERF$&#@ING CLASSES!

I honestly fail at this a lot. There's not many good defensive shotgun courses near me, I mostly practice at home and let me tell you- my reloads are *still* trash. And I drill.

Shotguns are highly complex manual of arms weapons. Reloading is a process with a lot of steps, you have you load each round individually.

"but Recoil!" I hear you say "they make box mag fed shotguns!" You whinge.

YOU WILL TASTE MY SHOE

Box fed shotguns are trash for defensive use. You cannot leave a box mag loaded, the shells will go oval unless you're running serious full brass shotshells. Which you're not. Don't bullshit me.
