BREAKING: 21-year-old protester, Kaden Rummler, was shot point-blank in the face by ICE. he just spoke about how he’s blind for life and almost died:

“I will be blind for life. I have fractures in my skull that they can’t fix. They pulled a piece of plastic the size of a nickel out of my eye. I had shards of metal, glass, and plastic behind my eye and in my skull. They said it was a miracle I survived.”

What the hell is wrong with these people?

Wow so, uh, that reblog of the Slate article about ICE’s hiring got popular really fast. I had to turn off notifications because my activity list was clogged and unusable. But I’d like to discuss something.

I’m seeing people in the notes there saying this is terrifying. And to be fair, it is: the feds are hiring the worst high school bullies to sic on American cities and particularly so-called “blue” cities that either voted against Donald or won’t cooperate with him, purely for the sake of proving that the “sanctuary city” designation is meaningless when the fed wants to ignore it.

Look, that’s nothing new. The fed will ignore anything if it’s inconvenient.

But I didn’t share that article to scare you. I shared it because it’s a vital look at the whys and wherefores of the current bullshit.

(And because I disagree with paywalling information like that.)

In order to defend ourselves, we need to know that kids of people who are targeting us. These are the kinds of people who will push and push and push until you fight back, and then they get you in trouble. They’ve been given carte blanche to assault anyone, and they’re happy to use it. This is by design. We cannot shame them: they have no shame. They think anyone who isn’t on their side deserves to be dragged in to the street; and the definition of who isn’t on their side is very, very broad.

Donald keeps threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act, because as far as he’s concerned, anyone who doesn’t like him is already an enemy of the state; he’s merely held back by the flimsiest of legal threads respected by Republicans. But lest we forget: he’s already proven ten times over that that legal barrier is meaningless to him. The fed holds the Insurrection Act over our heads not because it actually means something to them but because it means something to us: it’s a way to keep us in line. If we let ICE keep escalating, they’ll inevitably kill more of us because the federal government isn’t holding them to account; and if we fight back, ooh, we’ll send in the military and declare you all enemies of the state!

Damned if we do, damned if we don’t.

But one has to wonder: would the military – the REAL military, full of people who did not sign up to lay siege to their own neighbors – actually follow that order?

Call your local, state, and federal representatives. Let them know that they have your support in continuing to resist ICE and CBP’s illegal invasion. Push them to act. Politicians are not mind-readers: they don’t know where the people stand if the people don’t tell them.

They want us to be scared and worn down to the point where we helplessly roll over. I cannot stress enough how much that would not ever make things go any better.

I live by the motto, “if you can’t buy what you want, make it.” And this motto came to life recently in the form of a floral mosaic dining table for my back deck.

image

Our deck table had been showing its age already when the wind caught the umbrella and cracked it. I wanted to replace it with a mosaic table because I’d been enjoying that art form recently. But I couldn’t get one the size I wanted so I got creative.

I spent a few weeks looking for tile and figuring out a very loose design concept. I started by picking a limited set of tile shapes and a color palette.

Once the tiles arrived I had a piece of particle board cut to size for the base and I experimented with different motifs until I settled on a selection of floral shapes that gave me plenty of variety to fill space without locking me into one repeating pattern.

And then I was off! I basically doodled my way around the table, attaching tiles with Weld Bond (I went through 4 full bottles!) and rocking out to the K-Pop Demon Hunters soundtrack.

Once the florals were done it was time for the background…

image

Over 3,800 1cm glass tiles make up the not-design part of the design. It went pretty quickly though because I just had to fill the space, leaving room for grout.

Once I had the tile done, my husband assisted with disassembly and reassembly. We used the legs off the original table for this one (waste not).

One huge bucket of black grout later…

She is finished.

I enjoyed making it and just looking at it makes me so happy - I can’t wait for all the dinners we’ll have around this table 🌼❤️

Dumbass tabletop rpg character concept:

A character whose weapon is a gun with red dot sight laser, except the gun is just a dummy that’s been carved out of wood and sprayed black, with a laser pointer pen taped onto it. It’s obviously fake to any character who knows anything about firearms, and it’s always a gamble whether anyone who doesn’t know anything about guns is going to be fooled by it. But that’s the neat part: The gun isn’t the weapon.

This character has a familiar, a big cat beast that’s been trained to attack on command, attacking whatever the laser is pointed at.

No wait it gets better: Instead of a vocal command or some sort of a gesture, the dummy gun’s otherwise useless trigger makes a very distinct clicking sound, which is the cat’s cue to attack.
