Short snippet from the current chapter of Chasing Shadows I’m working on. I’ll try and post more later.
Colts sits on one of the mattresses and surprisingly Hancock sits close to him. He casually places his arm around Colt’s shoulders and pulls him close. Huh? Doesn’t Hancock know about Nick and Colt? As messy as it is, this isn’t cool. Sure enough Nick is throwing daggers at Hancock with his yellow eyes. Each blink of them giving a glimpse at his thoughts. Colt shrugs the arm off, but Hancock doesn’t seem bothered. He leans close and presses against Colt’s side. This time he freezes and does nothing. Face screwed into a frown.
“Leave him alone, pal.” Nick’s eyes burn in a darker shade of yellow I’ve never seen before.
“What? Can’t a ghoul get close to his soulmate?”
“What the hell are you on about? You’ve not once mentioned this before. And even if you had, Colt is mine. You’re making this up to get under my skin. You know things aren’t going well between me and him. And you’re rubbing it in!”
“Nah, brother. Why would I make it up? We’re close, you and I. I wouldn’t do that to you.”
“You’re jealous and you’re being selfish. You can have literally anyone else.”
“I already told you he’s my soulmate.”
“That’s impossible!”
Colt is petrified. He looks on silently. Surely he doesn’t know what to do. His life just got even more complicated. I feel for him. Letting one soulmate close is hard enough. And now there’s possibly another one.

Summary:
Aedan and his brother Colt face the world after leaving the vault. They fight to survive in this new and cruel world and along the way they find their soulmates against all odds and after thinking there’s no one out there for them. They build a family and home and make the best out of a bad situation.

The light is blinding as the elevator brings us out of the vault. For a moment I can only see white. As my eyes adjust I see something fly far above me. It’s gone as soon as it appeared. I rub my eyes. Am I seeing things? What the heck was that?
After the initial confusion I turn my attention to my surroundings. My hands grab onto Colt’s sleeve instinctively as the state of our surroundings sink in. My knees shake and I have trouble breathing. My fingers tighten around my brother’s arm. Everything around us is destroyed. I see buildings that have mostly collapsed and piles and piles of rubble and fallen trees everywhere. The colors of nature have vanished. Leaving behind browns and grays. It’s so quiet it hurts my ears.
