spending my whole working days looking forward to playing bg3 so i’ve now decided i need more games like bg3 - the genre is, i think, specifically computer rpgs. big world exploration but from top down camera, branching storyline, turn-based combat based on dice rolls, and as a bonus i do like the dnd character building.
going to try the last pathfinder next. i’ve been recommended larian’s earlier games as well as the bg2 and bg1 so those are on the list. i desperately wanted to enjoy dragon age inquisitions but the camera still made me motion sick.
if anyone has any recs i’d love to hear it. appreciate recs that use bg3 as a point of reference also!
good news i found both divinity original sin 2 and pathfinder wrath of the righteous secondhand and on sale. did the prologue for both recently and both promise to scratch the same itch bg3 did which i’m ecstatic about but like
why are western rpg character builders so scared of effeminate/androgynous men

reblogging this so i can find this post with all the recs again because now i’ve finished divinity 2 and have just started pathfinder wotr and i’m still having a blast, this is my new fave genre of video games even though my eyes are currently glazing over whenever a tutorial box pops up for wotr and it’s full of numbers

pillars of eternity 1 was on sale in the ps store so i got that too. the second one is too expensive right now but i’m on the lookout for sales/secondhand versions.

anybody else got recs please shout out! otherwise i’m working diligently through the list. :)

(shame about the ai usage in the next planned divinity game though. was really excited about it but now nah :( )

Let us never forget how somehow Square Enix got Florence + the Machine to record an absolutely beautiful, Final Fantasy-esque cover of “Stand by Me,” and then played it during the opening scene of Final Fantasy XV where four dorks are pushing their broken-down convertible down a country back road and you’re sitting their like “aww, that’s quirky, that’s kinda cute,” but when they play it again during the end credits of the game you’re sobbing facedown into your living room carpet

never cried harder at ANY media than i did through the ending of xv. it was just one sucker punch after another from the moment noct and co stepped onto the steps of the citadel. the credits continued punching down. and just when you thought it was definitely over, the new menu came on screen i stg i wailed
