Something so disgusting about how the original Haitian zombie folklore is "the zombies are victims of a sorcerer who exploits them as slaves" and then modern zombie media is "the zombies just appear from an infection that turns Real People into a rampaging horde serving no other purpose than to threaten Civilization" like.

The Haitian zombie is very clearly metaphorical for the very real horrors of slavery, while the viral zombie is fundamentally about "what if there was a type of guy it was completely okay to kill and you got to exist in a survivalist fantasy as a Badass, also when infrastructure collapses it's every man for himself and altruism goes away"

And isn't it super interesting to think about that in the context of historical US-Haiti relations?

Also there's many of them and they spread and become innumerable hordes who invade your town but also you can kill hundreds of them because they're individually weak and stupid

A completely disorganized horde of weak, uncoordinated, literally feral humans that a Real Badass can take out by the thousands, but they somehow overwhelm all the regular people and cause the collapse of society. It's up to the Great Men to fix the problem. This totally isn't a fascist fever dream.

does anyone have that post about wanting to command someone to play video games for you like a king from his throne. because you can achieve this with plurality

we were trying to remember the wording of that post while doing this

So turns out the US are setting babies up for a lifetime of illness and increased likelihood of liver cancer in Guinea Bissau in the name of “research”

7000 newborns will be denied the neoneatal HepB vaccine until 6 weeks to ‘prove’ that the HepB vaccine is linked to neurodevelopmental disability on the directions of the Department of Health vis RFK Jr and in collaboration with researchers in Denmark, despite the fact that the vaccine’s efficacy rate and best protection is when administered to newborns, and the total lack of correlation between vaccination and neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Guinea Bissau has some of the highest rates of HepB on the continent, and infants are the group at the highest risk of contracting HepB, leading to chronic hepatitis & long term hepatic diseases like cirrhosis and liver failure as well as increased chance of liver cancer.

The study can’t be carried out in the US or Denmark because it fails almost every benchmark for medical ethics — surprising absolutely nobody, it is in fact heinously unethical to expose babies to preventable disease that causes liver failure and liver cancer, but the “study” has been green lit in Guinea.

Fuck the US imperial project in Africa, fuck RFK Jr and the US Department of Health, and fuck every single collaborative researcher in Denmark. This is some nightmare Tuskegee Study shit and every single individual involved deserves to be in The Hague.

there’s this term i coined in my friendgroup i call “the charizard effect” and it can apply to anything and everything, but it was born from me explaining my feelings about the pokemon charizard. the term is basically about how overexposure to something be it by corporate shilling or fandom prominence drives me away from really enjoying something bc i’m exposed to it so much against my will i become tired of it. it came to me bc i was ranting about how tpci does not, and cannot stop reinventing charizard, and how it is popular and obtusely included in almost every region, merch, etc in every way possible and it’s highly commodified.

i dont dislike the pokemon charizard, in fact i really like its X form, but i am exposed to so much charizard in my pokemon consumption that i cant be bothered to care for it in any more than in passing. this applies to a bunch of other stuff i’d otherwise be ok with, but i always just call this aversion phenomena “the charizard effect”

making this term has done numbers for me being able to concisely express how i feel abt something. like. its not charizard’s fault i feel this way, im sure i’d feel normal abt it if it was stripped of all this over commodification, but i cannot. hence the name

My watchman review as someone who only knows it from posts:

The story is protagonized by a man called roscharch, he is super cool and badass but everyone online says I missed the point by idolizing him (heh little do they know I didn't read the book)

Our hero roscharch is on a quest to investigate a mysterious walking nervous system that appears in a lab on November seventh.

His quest brings him to the culprit, the man who can make small number 9s appear on the bottom left. The man who can make small number nines appear on the bottom left explains that he is not affiliated to the republican party (a fictional faction invented for the book) and that his plan has happened twenty five minutes ago and that roscharch is too late to stop the walking nervous system that appeared on November eleven

That man than summons his stand, the blue man who lives on the moon that asks our hero what a shame it is that steven jobs died of ligma. Roscharch doesn't have a phone so he doesn't know who Steven jobs is, nevertheless he triggers the blue man's power and is exploded

Overall horrible book, the plot makes no sense at all

i ultimately don't think the way japanese media treats women is all that different from how western media treats women, it's just not christian about it

in a lot of ways it's generally more openly sexual and less judgemental of sexuality, at least within the context of fiction. i think it tends to rub up against western christian ideas in a way that makes white people get a little scared. other than that almost every present issue of misogyny is just as pronounced in western, especially american media.

a lot of shounen anime treats women badly, unlike american action films, which has historically been hyperfeminist i'm sure :)
