We're a group of LGBTQ+ refugees now find our selves living on the edge of survival. Once residents of a refugee in camp that was supposed to offer us protection, we were instead met with rejection, violence, and eventually expulsion—simply because of who we are.
For many of us, the camp was meant to be a refuge from persecution in our home countries. But instead of safety, we found ourselves targeted again. Homophobic and transphobic attacks became part of daily life—verbal abuse, beatings, and threats often came from fellow refugees, sometimes even from those meant to protect us. The situation reached a breaking point when a wave of violence erupted, forcing dozens of LGBTQ+ refugees out of the camp with nothing but the clothes on our backs.
Now, we live in desperate conditions—without food, shelter, or medical care. Many sleep under trees or streets. The rainy nights are especially harsh, soaking our few belongings and leaving us vulnerable to illness. Access to healthcare is almost impossible, and those who fall sick go untreated. Hunger is constant; some go days without eating, relying on the kindness of strangers or the little support we can gather from well-wishers.
Despite all this, we continue to hold onto hope. We dream of a life where we can live openly, safely, and with dignity. But our situation is critical—we cannot survive on hope alone. We urgently need humanitarian support: food, water, shelter, medical supplies, and security.
We are calling upon humanitarian organizations, human rights defenders, and compassionate individuals to stand with us. No one deserves to be punished for their identity. Every person, regardless of who they love or how they express themselves, deserves safety and dignity.
