(Warning for rambling and many unconnected thoughts haha.)

Will Graham is NOT innocent—and that’s why he’s Hannibal’s near half. That’s why the ship WORKS.

Will’s Id—urges, hunger, desire—is constantly repressed or ‘masked’ until the finale of season 3. Will’s glasses? A barrier between him and the world. The corporeal metaphor of how none truly SEES Will Graham. It’s a fort to protect Will from the world: and the world of true Will. The collars in his shirts being buttoned up and tight? The world is suffocating him. He’s suffocating himself. Putting on a leash: because he doesn’t flaunt what he ‘is’. A stray. The ‘other’ whose feelings of loneliness churn and cleave and ricochet.

Will is a mirror, often. He emulates Jack’s cadence, the way his tongue rolls, the way his voice folds in the wind—

His crisis of identity initially might stem from wanting and forcing himself to fit what ‘normal’ is. A type of masking, as well. From him, altruism doesn’t sprout as natural as the murders he profiles.

The human suit, that drag, Will portrays so often of being ‘good’ is a lie.

And plenty of the audience fell for the trick. Deceit.

Since season one, Will is presented as someone ‘unstable’ and ‘abnormal’. He tries and fails in social settings, as seen above.

When Hannibal comes in, Will is almost stripped down. He doesn’t wear glasses as often with Hannibal as he does with Jack or Alana or anyone else. Will lets Hannibal see him—a part of him. And he sees Hannibal right back in return. Barriers dismantle slowly.

His dogs and their bond with Will parallel that of Hannibal and Will’s—taking in and caring for each other, strays to the outside world. Outcasts.

When Will kills Jacob Hobbs, his shock does not find its roots solely on the act of robbing another life. It was him struggling with accepting how something inside him wanted more. How taking a life felt good. Fissures in his mask.

Beyond his Encephalitis, Will continuously shows a rather volatile pattern of violent urges throughout the show. In season 2, when he tries to kill Hannibal. When he fantasizes about it, about warm death upon his hands. The raw intimacy and catharsis. The death of Randall. The metamorphosis. The way he CALLED HANNIBAL INSTINCTIVELY, NOT THINKING, AND DECIDED WHEN HE HEARD HANNIBAL’S VOICE. BREATH.

Also. Everyone thinking he had the profile on s2 and everything to fit the role of executioner. Yes yes he’s autistic and he’s badly perceived but THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX it makes SENSE. He yearns deeply. He feels deeply. He wants and needs and acts deeply.

And him using Molly and Walter as a starter pack for a normal family that filled in the hollow places left irrevocably behind by Hannibal and Abigail?? And never saying I love you back, and ditching it all away??

Hannibal only shone light upon—no, STIRRED Will’s HUNGER. Hannibal may be nourished with Will, but for Will?? He discovered or rather embraced his bloodthirst and hunger BECAUSE of the catalyst Hannibal represented. He’s fearless, possessive, and RAW with hannibal. He can be his true self with hannibal. Hannibal digs up his hunger his essence and character. The ending was so impossibly erotic and intimate and pure in such a twisted way these gays make me violently sick

Anyway have some more thoughts in disarray

Before I watched NBC's Hannibal I would see GIFs on Tumblr with subtitles like "I gave you a child, if you recall," and "Is your social worker in that horse?" and assume they were joke memes, like incorrect quotes or imagines for comedic effect. But every single time it turned out to be canon, and every single time I was flabbergasted to be proven wrong about the most batshit, "only an unhinged fanfic writer could have come up with this" level of lore.

The last straw was when people wouldn't stop going on about "slutty little Will Graham" and how he was practically asking for it and I thought, "I know we love our MLM ships on this here website but sometimes you guys just read too much into things. I know Hugh Dancy's handsome but it is simply physically impossible to 'seductively' lean against a ladder --

And then I saw it and was like, oh.

Wow. Boy was I wrong. Like he really just... did... that. Huh.

Ran his hands up and down the wood and everything. In a way that can only be described as stroking. Caressing.

And the heaving bosom? So unnecessary. Like, there's only so much I can defend.

And I had to accept that for once, even the thirstiest people in the fandom were not exaggerating. There really is no other explanation for this. They could announce Omegaverse to be canon in Season 4 and the plot of seasons 1-3 would still make sense with minimal changes. (He SCENTS the AIR whenever Will walks in, for fuck's sake.)

Having watched the show now, this is my formal apology for doubting you guys. Go forth and write your smut -- honestly it can't get worse than what they've already broadcast.
