white americans when you tell them that the idea of climate change as an impending disaster is a reductive first world perspective because it’s a tangible reality for many in the global south already:

sillyguy-supreme

maybe if you see south and southeast asians dying in the heat and latin americans dying in floods and all you think of is imagining a reality where YOU are affected, then you should rethink how you see people of color. if you cannot see climate change as a real disaster until it is other americans dying in the heat and the floods and not just black and brown people, then don’t talk about climate change until you can acknowledge the grim reality of climate change for everyone.

Not to derail too much because op is right it isnt affecting the first world in the same way But when it is affecting america it is affecting black and immigrant communities far more than white america And when it does affect white america its far more forgiving Its largely to do with housing and communities so not the same as the deadliest things like hurricanes and floods That mainly affect island nations but floods are affecting the us I read the great displacement by Jake Bittel last year and its a great intro to the start of climate change and the us But its exclusively an american book And it could have done a better job talking about more native perspectives it did a little but it couldve used another But like going back to ops main point the affects of climate change have been here for decades in the countries least responsible I gotta read a book talking about climate change on a global scale
