sfth max fosh longform im so excited. I fear I'm not gonna stop thinking about it.
The second hand embarrassment from watching Stephan Mangan react in pure shock to people going ‘Aww’ because Suki made a bald joke is on their latest instagram clip, is so strong.
These are adult men you’re reacting to, it’s comedy. You can laugh with them because it’s banter. If their feelings are hurt I’m sure they will communicate it (well AJ did flip her off in good fun) off stage.
It’s theatre etiquette at the end of the day, regardless whether it’s improv or a musical, people have paid to see the performers, not hear the crowed at unwarranted times.
Of course, reactions in shock or laughter, or calling out suggestions for play titles or games is different, but the constant ‘awwing’ is making it unwatchable, and now it’s crossing over to other performances and performers.
I know this has been said before, but I've just watched Never Give Annabelle A Gun for the first time, and omg. Sapphic romance with a happy ending? 100/10, I am SO here for it. (And I am eternally grateful to Sam's "Oh good, we didn't kill the lesbian" for allowing us to even have that ending.)
But that scene between AJ and Luke???? That was the one that truly left the biggest impact for me.
Because what do you mean that when I am watching a comedy group of four guys, I am getting genuinely creeped out at how realistically they portrayed violence against women. Like AJ was so creepy, not because his character was some supernatural monster, but because he just felt like a Real Guy. In that moment, nothing was over the top, the power he felt in that situation was quiet and controlled, it was all super grounded, and just... yikes.
And Luke?? He reacted to that situation so well. His mannerisms were so real that I really didn't see a guy then. All I saw was a young woman being cornered by a guy, who is clearly obsessed with her, and in a position of authority. The "I don't like this" genuinely broke my heart.
The subtleties of both their performances were outstanding.
No one told me when I was drawn into this silly COMEDY improv group a few days ago that I would have to deal with such real emotions like this. Like what the hell????
you know, i'll probably never get tired of knowing how much SFTH is comfortable with showing so much affection towards one another like these four do... you don't often see men be affectionate with their male friends, so seeing a group of four comedians, who had been friends for over a decade or two, be okay with kissing and hugging each other as often as they do, is so so nice ;w;
I personally believe that in the live-show server, pics and vids should still be allowed to have comments. It could have had an easier solution to what had been stated the problem was, where there was some individuals that wanted to just access the media, which you can do, by pressing the media button in the top of the chat as its a discord feature anyways. I find that because of the pics-and-vids chat being just media based now, the server itself is going to lose a lot of activity. I haven't seen as many pictures get posted in there since the update, and all the conversations from posts previous to the update, have been deleted, which I find a bit odd as it would've taken ages to remove all those comments and now all the memories from that chat has been lost - bar from the pictures.
I understand why they would want it to just be a media heavy channel, but the thread is pointless, it isn't going to get used as much as a simple comment would be in the same channel. People aren't going to forward the post into there just to reply, it isn't worth it.
Since originally we weren't even going to get a thread to go with the channel, I feel like they are losing out on the whole 'community' thing. The General chat is literally what is says on the tin - a general chat, about shows. They considered that we could talk about pics-and-vids in there, but then that would scatter the conversations and make it even more confusing. The thread - pointless.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that they missed a trick. Media is simply accessed through discord itself, which they could've literally put screenshots in an announcement stating how to get there and access pictures only for those who don't want to scroll through comments. Conversations should be limited, but not completely taken away. It's how you build a community UP, not throw it away.
