Don’t forget that the US civil rights bill only passed after six weeks of rioting that were the direct result of MLK’s murder. Peaceful protest paved the way, but violent protest got it over the finish line.

It’s understandable why the state would not want you know that, but that’s also why it’s imperative that you do.

king’s family doesn’t “believe” the FBI killed him, they know it for fact because the FBI admitted to it in a civil case brought against them in the early 90s. the court documents are a matter of public record. read them yourself. the king family won that suit against the united states fucking government for assassinating martin luther king jr

I’m sorry, I really need to correct this, because conspiracy bullshit is conspiracy bullshit regardless of its source.

king’s family doesn’t “believe” the FBI killed him, they know it for fact because the FBI admitted to it in a civil case brought against them in the early 90s.

No, they did not. The FBI wasn’t even a party in the case. The case was against Loyd Jowers, who owned a diner near where Dr. King was killed, “and unknown co-conspirators.” Jowers was the one who “admitted” to having been a part of a conspiracy involving not only the FBI, but also the CIA, the army, the mafia, and a bunch of different state and local government agencies.

the court documents are a matter of public record. read them yourself.

The transcript is almost 3000 pages long, so I think it’s a bit of a tall order to ask people to read it themselves. And even if they did read it, that doesn’t mean that they understand anything that’s happening in the transcript. I don’t think that tumblr user error-404-fuck-not-found has read it at all, or else they wouldn’t make the claims they have.

It is a bit fun to read, though, since the lawyer representing the King family is named William Pepper and he has a doctorate in education, so the transcript has a lot of references to Dr. Pepper. It also has absolutely weird tangents, like when Dr. Pepper asks the ex-wife of Earl Clark (allegedly the actual shooter) if she’s a Christian and if she believes that the sins of the father should be visited on his children.

the king family won that suit against the united states fucking government for assassinating martin luther king jr

The jury agreed to three things: that Jowers was part of a conspiracy to assassinate Dr. King, that “other parties” – including but not limited to “government agencies” – were also part of the conspiracy, and they awarded $100 in damages to the King family (which is all they had asked for). That’s it. That’s the whole thing.

Note that a civil trial’s burden of proof is “more likely than not,” not “beyond a reasonable doubt.” The jury thought it was probable that Jowers was part of a conspiracy, based on the evidence in front of them. Not part of the evidence in front of them:

  • Jowers had previously named multiple other people as the “real” shooter, not just Earl Clark;
  • Jowers claimed to both not know Clark and to have been a regular hunting partner of his (this was contradicted by Clark’s ex-wife at trial);
  • Jowers had previously stated on separate occasions both that he had no idea that there was a plot to kill Dr. King and his involvement was minimal and that he had been hired by the mob specifically to find an assassin to kill Dr. King.

Importantly, there is evidence - some, but not all, of which was revealed in the lawsuit - that the FBI definitely had it out for Dr. King. J. Edgar Hoover repeatedly called King a communist and a liar. The FBI wiretapped his phone and bugged his home and hotel rooms and attempted to blackmail him with some of the recordings. They published propaganda disguised as journalism and political cartoons in an attempt to sway the public against him. And we know that the FBI definitely was involved in the killings of other prominent black leaders like Fred Hampton.

Point being, there is plenty of evidence that the FBI conspired against King, but not that they were behind his assassination. They certainly did not admit that in a civil trial against a guy who owned a restaurant.

CURRENT MILKSHAKE FIC RECOMMENDATIONS - VOLUME 3

(vol. 1) (vol. 2)

Chiaroscuro - Cinnamoncandyy (“redemption arc”, slow burn, canon-divergent)

i usually dislike redemption arc fics and the myriad common mischaracterization pitfalls that come with them but not only is this fics’ twist on the premise Fucking Hilarious but the plot progression is very snappy and enthusiastically skips along to the Significant Parts of that progression in a way that still feels Logical. lots of interesting character dynamics get explored outside of just sm’s thoughts and feelings on pv which keeps things refreshing and the plural smilk representation is also BASED as FUCK. it should be telling this is one of the primary fics on all of these lists that i’ve since done a full reread of after finishing it the first time. compass my beloved 🐍

Community Gardens by peachyPigeon (dubiouslyDani) (slow burn, mutual pining, hurt/comfort?) [ongoing]

now THIS is some fuckin canon-conscience shadow milk character progression. he’s scheming, methodical and bitter towards pure vanilla but hes also SO emotionally inept about their whole Thing that continuing to try and thwart his other half after their initial beast yeast encounter has some extremely comical consequences. this is also yet another fic that has some great moments of interaction and dynamic building with characters outside of the main pairing too! this motherfucker is at 37 chapters at the time of writing and STILL GOING and ive continued to enjoy the way its progressed despite having strayed over time from its initial premise. its fairly domestic in its pacing and presentation but not at all in a boring way.

Deceit’s Sacrificial Lamb - And_yet_we_love (divinity au) (⚠️ rated mature; graphic violence)

really fun cult of the lamb-inspired threeshot that has some interesting takes on smpv’s, like, Base Ingredient Dynamic? such is to say its VERY far removed from the source material, just some god/mortal trope-filled goodness that also has a bad end what-if you can read afterwards if you want every bone in your body to Hurt. i find the phenomenon of authors ripping characters out of their source and heavily remixing them in ways that are recognizable still to be very entertaining so while these two are Quite Different here i think its worth a read, id imagine doubly so if you’re a cotl fan (i have Not played it so i cant speak to how on the nose it is with its influence)

Liar’s Solace - HanWuPerfidy (canon-divergent, character study, arguably psychological horror???) (⚠️ rated mature; graphic descriptions of cannibalism) [ongoing]

liar’s solace is a fucking Trip. in this respect calling it a ship fic would be generous, but it is smpv centric and moreover a SUPER interesting what-if for the fount of knowledge, his relationship to the witches and emissaries, and some of the more otherwise handwaved elements of cookie run’s worldbuilding. this one’s got some Grit to it, more than typical of my taste, but the picture being painted here is very compelling and i’m eager to see more of it, which makes it worthy of a shoutout in my book even if the tone and intent is Remarkably different from the rest on these lists. heed the content warning I Am So Serious.

Storms Always Pass - Rabbit_With_Socks (fluff)

in contrast to the multitude of fics on this list that are in the tens to a hundred thousand words range this oneshot is short enough to where i have literally no notes other than its Fucking Adorable and You Should Read It. this is an EXTREMELY funny headcanon to have about shadow milk and this fic takes it Very seriously, i greatly enjoy it any time an author goes the full mile on an idea that would more likely belong in a crackfic in anyone else’s hands
