frequently mistaken for a real person

When I was in high school we did an english unit on Octavia Butler and the teacher told us hey btw. You should call her "Butler" in your essays. Sometimes students call female writers by their first names unconsciously, but that's not acceptable. If you wouldnt call them William or Ernest you shouldn't call her Octavia.

And I was like cool whatever I was gonna call her Butler anyways. But that moment has stuck with me for my whole life because once you start seeing ppl calling women by their first names where men would be called by their last names you literally never stop seeing it.

i much prefer reading to watching shows/movies but i wish id watched akira before reading it bc then the manga would seem like a cool expansion instead of the movie feeling like they shaved off half the plot and massively downplayed the importance of most of the women in the story. and also because this soundtrack fucks hard and would have been good to listen to while reading

I love that the entire legacy of Richard Spencer is now that he's a Nazi who got punched on live TV. Nobody knows who he is anymore. Nobody listens to him. Nobody really even uses the term "alt-right" anymore. The mark he left on this world can be solely boiled down to a single gif of him getting punched in the side of the head on the news.
