whatever time anomaly that benny possesses control over is localized entirely to the island. the way i think i want it to work is; while the world outside the island continues to move, anything on the island is sent back according to benny's influence. like, the year continues to move, the date on the calendar keeps changing, but the state the island is in reverts to before benny kills someone.

if its the 1st when they die, they're back on the 2nd, and they live the 2nd as if it's were the 1st. this can make holidays and birthdays feel a little strange; if you die on your bday, you come back the day after wondering how you missed it.

idk, its like, the shenanigans cause gaps in memory, and while a murdered villager doesn't fully remember getting killed, they do feel a certain fear when they see benny or the place where the death happened?

ive had to rethink how i want bennys reset ability to work. i want him to have more motivation to keep maisy on the island. he's got a time limit now, and he needs to make her want to stay.

perhaps there's a point where he realizes that she really is planning on leaving, and that breaks something in him. maybe he breaks his reset ability to keep the island on one singular day, so maisy cant leave.

(ive been thinking about it, and i think if i wanted there to actually be a way that maisy (potentially aided by angus) could "defeat" benny...they'd have to take him off the island where he couldn't reset.)

he got the name for a reason

Angus

-still a gruff, hotheaded bastard. still has a...thing for humans, though he doesn't bring it up.

-maisy avoided him at first, partially because benny warned her about him, and partially because of how pissed off he always looked. regardless of this apparent fear, angus kept an eye on her (shes so much weaker than the villagers, he just had to make sure no-one took it too far).

-has a surprising sense of justice, and will break up fights that seem unfairly matched. has helped maisy on occasion because of this, though he passes it off as simply keeping the peace (no wayward feelings here no sir).

-definitely fantasizes about maisy after they've gotten to know each other better. he doesn't show it, but his soft spot for her grows every time she's nice to him. he's fallen hard and fast and he knows it.

-finds himself wanting to be a safe space for her. despite his nature, he wants her to trust him and save her gentleness for him.

-by the end...he wants to save her; whatever that may mean.

Mono

-still a coward. still missing an eye.

-stayed away from maisy at the start. didn't want another target painted on his back for being the only one other than benny to socialize with the local pariah.

-feels awful about it now that he knows what kind of person she is. nobody else ever helped him when he'd been hurt...nobody else ever sat with him when he had a breakdown. noone else ever listened like she did.

-despite knowing the risks, despite the overwhelming feeling that something will go horribly wrong, mono finds himself falling for maisy, just a bit.

-helps by returning the favor when he can, buying her supplies when the general store won't sell to her.

-wishes he could do more for her. really. but he's just...so, so tired, and afraid.

-wants them both to make it. somehow.

i mean, idk how to explain the morality behind using real people as inspiration/models when they don't know about it, but its a good learning exercise regardless! ive based a few ocs off real strangers ive seen, I suppose since its not a one-to-one recreation its ok?

either way, this is fantastic. keep on keepin' on my guy, everything you draw is one more fuck off to the ai bootlickers who refuse to pick up a pen ;)

realize that not everything you make needs to be a masterpiece. and that not everything needs to gather a ton of notes.

to be honest, im nowhere near the skill level i want to be. everytime I post something, i know i'll come back to it in a few days, weeks, or months, possibly even years, and see all kinds of problems. but, time and age have taught me that it's a part of growing. you didn't see it then, but experience and a growth of skill let you see it now.

ultimately, its not that serious. this is tumblr.

i certainly don't think im the best at what i do, but i think ive gotten better at sticking to what i wanna see.

eh, i figure its a sign that i did a good job.

the fact that my oc made such an impression on people, so much so that they still want to hear about them years after i stop actively drawing them, is kinda an ego boost. i don't think im all that great at character design; i make what i like and hope it looks good to others.

ultimately, i decide what im going to draw and what asks im going to answer. nobody can make me draw anything i don't feel like, so i don't feel any pressure from asks about ocs i haven't drawn in a while.

if i don't want to, i won't. im not obligated to draw just because somebody on the internet asks me to.

now i just gotta....actually draw them. ive got a new lil story written for dont look, but i really wanted to redesign them. their original story wasn't making sense to me anymore, and i didn't want to leave them in obscurity
