ok i feel like i should explain what this means.

on the one hand it is clear from her work that she understands how patriarchy and similar systems of power and oppression (notably classism) work, as well as an understanding of Why They Are Bad that goes beyond the typical "girlboss" or "men bad" forms of feminism.

on the other hand she does not give a single fuck about her female characters.

#every woman she writes has depth and internality and a relationship to the society she lives in#and it's really impressive how she manages to do this while allergic to having a woman present for longer than 3 pages at a time#like damn miss moxiang this character was very compelling for the 5 lines of dialogue she was allowed to have. how do you do it? - via @lgbtlunaverse

saying “you are a burden on society” is just such a weird framing of priorities It’s like saying “wow, think how much better gas mileage your car would get if you weren’t sitting in it” or “think how dry that umbrella would be if you weren’t holding it in between you and the rainstorm”. the things we create? they’re for us. they are meant to carry us. they are meant to protect us. we are meant to hold them up to keep us dry.

I’m holding you so gently when I say this-

Capitalization and punctuation are not overrated.

They are useful.

You don’t have to be some grammar supremacist, but capitalizing proper nouns helps me know what kind of noun you mean when I’m reading. Putting quotation marks around someone else’s words or the title of a song, poem, or other short work makes it clear that it’s not meant to be read as part of the sentence. You italicize or underline the titles of longer works like books. Literally just capitalizing those makes your writing so much clearer and easier to read.

Commas help me see which words group together as phrases on the first read, instead of having to read it three times before I understand you.

Yes, much of grammar is very flexible, and policing someone’s grammar over unimportant details just to be technically “correct” is not helpful. I’ll never judge someone for just not knowing how to punctuate. But if you do know, please do it. Please try to learn a little, if you can. You can Google this stuff.

Reading comes pretty easily to me, but I can only imagine how difficult it must be to read that kind of writing if you are dyslexic or have other reading difficulties.

Dracula invited a human realtor and a mouse realtor to his castle and there were extended periods of time where he would say to his human realtor “Ah please excuse me I have business to attend to” and turn into a bat to talk to his mouse realtor.

Inspired by my 2023 poll which featured my own successful resolutions from previous years, and this post which has a lot of fun ideas including the OP's suggestion of creating your own quests such as:

"Pasta Quest (i am eating as many different pasta shapes as possible in the space of a year) or when i did Fruit Adventures (every time i saw a fruit i had never eaten before id get one and eat it and read the wikipedia article about it)"

Quests don't have to be food based, some of the ideas in the notes include taking selfies with different cats, learning new card games, making art for fun, and more (people are still adding comments and tags and reblogs in the notes).
