BREAKING: 21-year-old protester, Kaden Rummler, was shot point-blank in the face by ICE. he just spoke about how he’s blind for life and almost died:
“I will be blind for life. I have fractures in my skull that they can’t fix. They pulled a piece of plastic the size of a nickel out of my eye. I had shards of metal, glass, and plastic behind my eye and in my skull. They said it was a miracle I survived.”
What the hell is wrong with these people?

forget cannibalism it bums me out that i will probably never be able to ethically eat like, a flamingo
Penguin flippers, Kiwi breast, elephant trunk steak, that kind of stuff?
you jest but now I’m genuinely curious what penguin meat would taste like under all that blubber. would it retain any “bird” flavor or would it be more similar to marine mammals??? i don’t actually want to eat a penguin to be clear, you’ve simply sparked my curiosity
My grandfather reported that they taste like fishy rubber boiled in motor oil. So bad that he only tried it once despite being on a ship in the Antarctic ocean for months on end. 1940s dry rations were preferable to fresh penguin.
Ok so I tried something similar today during work.
Pretty much most marine birds who mainly have fish in their diet taste pretty similar.
I tried a number of auk species (those include things like puffins, little auks, guillemots, razorbills ect.) And when boiled they both smell and taste kind of like wet Catfood and have dark meat.
Pretty gross and not reccomedable.
I could imagine its fair to assume penguin meat will not taste much different, though I can’t give first hand accounts.
BUT i live in a place where people used to hunt and eat young gulls and they supposedly tasted good ( biggest lie ive ever heard).
I think with most of these marine bird species you really only eat them when you NEED to or go through a longer process of trying to get rid of the fishy taste by keeping them in milk baths or vinegar.
The joy of cooking has a similar suggestion for eating varmints who tend to eat garbage, such as opossums: Keep them alive for a week or so, feeding them oats, cereals, and honey.
Can confirm, makes for tastier varmint
THE JOY OF COOKING????
opossums and beavers and bears, oh my!

EDIT: i removed the “trump refused to swear on the bible” point because it was being taken as me being an offended christian. i’m not christian, im agnostic. the reason i included it in the first place is because he’s the first president in history to ever refuse to swear on ANYTHING. meanwhile his “conservative christian” followers had no issue with this, and decided to continue to scramble for excuses instead of admitting he may not be as religious as he claims he is. i figured taking that point out entirely is probably better than filling this with an explanation in the middle of the other important issues.

Sadly, this is AI:
- branches on the left flicker in and out of existence
- cat runs in deep snow but somehow is able to jump really high between leaps, more dog-like than cat-like
- cat face-plants in the snow instead of hiding/burrowing in it, which is not normal behaviour (no play-hunt behaviour at least)
- snow clings very cleanly around its face instead of clumping unevenly
- cat’s whiskers seem to disappear/reappear at some point
- cat is completely dry, even though he’s coming from the middle of nowhere (meaning he supposedly was in the snow for a while)
- cat’s pupils don’t change size even though the cat seems to change its focus from close object (camera) to far object (looking in the distance)
- the zooming in doesn’t make the picture less detailed, it makes the details even sharper, which means there’s no loss of pixels like you have on every phone camera, and the video ratio indicates that this would be filmed on a phone
- the background blur is not a normal blur: the elements are detailed, but weirdly smoothed out. This is AI blur
- the snow lifted off by the cat running actually doesn’t go anywhere; the snow on the ground stays un-disturbed and smooth, the clumps of snow are projected in the air but they never land, they just disappear
- speaking of the snow, the cat’s leaps don’t leave any hole in the ground, even though, as we see later on, the camera is capable of a lot of detail
- the music is completely generic but matches exactly the moment when the cat’s head pops out of the snow. It’s really atypical of tiktok and tiktok-like videos (if unknown music, no match with the video; if movement matches the music, the music is generally widely known, because this is how people think of stuff). My guess is the music was generated alongside this video
I think it’s very important to get off the high horse of “I CALLED IT! People who are falling for these videos are IDIOTS!! It’s OBIVOUS to ANYBODY PAYING ATTENTION!!” It’s actually not obvious, and it’s less and less so. People are not idiots; they’re reacting in good faith to harmless content, because this is what being a person is.
The more we go on, the more we have to be wary of not only visual details, but behavioral details as well, because AI is becoming really difficult to spot. There’s a dude on tiktok who does this admirably (Jeremy Carrasco on @showtoolsai, check him out), pulling apart details that help out tremendously, as:
- if it’s an animal video: is the behavior consistent with what that animal would do? Does it move as it should? A lot of AI “running animal” videos are trained on dog videos, so you can find dog-like behavior in animals that shouldn’t display it
- where does the light source come from?
- what is the frame ratio? Does it make sense with the ratios you might find on a real camera or a phone, or does it look cropped? Is it a home-like video but with a cinema-like framing? Is it an all-around weird ratio, that could be explained by someone cropping an AI logo out of the video?
- who’s filming, what’s the setup, does it look planned? Is it really abnormal that this was captured on camera?
- is it a trend currently (for example: white women filming themselves crying while trekking because they were unprepared was a trend a few months ago)? Is it particulary infuriating? Is it particularly cute?
- most importantly: who’s the owner of the video? What account is posting this? Do they post AI a lot? Do they post random videos that aren’t their own? Can you find where the video originated from? Is anyone credited?
These are not foolproof, but they help a lot. I’ve gotten got several times, but these reflexes helped me so much.

hey it’s ok if you lost your ai virginity back when you were uneducated. a lot of posts go like “reblog if you have never ever used generative ai and never ever will!!!” but it’s ok if you have used gen ai before and it’s even ok if you used to think it was cool, back before you understood what it really was and how it worked, either because no one had taught you about it and you discovered it on your own or because the only education you had received about it was from the tech bros. you’re not a burger with a bite out of it for having used ai. ok
It is 100 percent okay to stop using it today and join the “boo AI” club.
This isn’t a purity thing. This is a “everyone stand with us against destroying the environment and giving asthma to poor people” thing.
Did you know that when one community says no to an AI data center, they specifically search out communities with fewer resources? Communities that can’t defend themselves? And the pollution 100 percent affects their health and wellbeing, in addition to burning through our already scarce drinking water.
You can stop using character.ai today. You can say “I listened to the facts and stopped.” And another thing: don’t you think it’s a bit more impactful to have used it, stopped, and then you’re in a position to say how little it helped? How doing things for yourself improved your life?
also posts in the spirit of “if you’ve used AI even ONCE your soul is tainted!!!!” can’t be great to those with OCD
So true. People Gold Star Lesbianning ai makes me so tired.

hewasmadeofthegalaxy-deactivate:
hewasmadeofthegalaxy-deactivate:
Nothing shuts down a bougie conversation like “well, when I was homeless—” Nothing. It’s one and done. They are fucking taken out. The conversation is dead. Done.
“there’s enough charities in place to help our homeless population”
Well I was turned away from every single one in the area because I was a non Christian trans person. Not that there were many I could make the walk to, to be fair.
“if someone is homeless, they can just forage for food! Probably eating healthier than we are har har har!”
I was homeless in winter. And yeah, sure, I knew how to use pine needles to make tea and boil bark but. Come on. You think every homeless person has that fucking knowledge or resources? And I was homeless on a mountain. What about people who are homeless in cities? What are they going to forage? Gravel? And what about areas where foraging is illegal? You want them to get arrested? In a police state like this?
“well as long as they don’t get into trouble, there won’t be trouble!”
You make laws criminalizing their existence. The “trouble” they make is surviving. I got the cops called on me because I went for a walk. I had a stick I was using to help me walk because I have a limp and couldn’t afford a cane. A fucking white couple saw me and called the cops and told them I was walking “with a rifle” and was “very threatening”. I got DAMNED lucky that a Light horseman found me first and told me what happened. Laughed a little. Told me not to worry about it, he’d call it in as bogus, and have a talk with the couple. But again. I was lucky. If that had been a state cop and not a rez one, I could have been fucking shot. For walking.
Honestly, if you are not for the liberation of homeless people, if you are not for decriminalizing homelessness and all aspects of it, if you say things like, “now I support those people, but I wish I didn’t have to see it, because it makes me uncomfy,” you have swallowed the propaganda pill. Congrats. You were not immune to it and now you are sick with it.

Hey. Heyhey. Do me a favor real quick.
If you don’t already know you have issues doing so, squat down real quick. Bend your knees all the way and touch the floor. Just make sure you can do it. Okay? For me? And then stand up all the way and make sure you can balance on one foot.
Like. You don’t need to blow it into some huge thing. Just. Make sure all your bits and peices still work the way you think they do.
Can you turn your head to look behind you without twisting your shoulders? What about standing on your toes? If you sit down on the floor can you get back up without using your hands?
If there was ever a tumblr post worth sending to your mom, it’s this one.
Just saying, bodies are a use it or lose it kinda thing.
okay so every time I see this post crop back up in queues and notifications I end up thinking about it. Because I made the post and even I’m still doing the thing where I read the post about maintaining range of motion in my delicate meatsuit and I nod and hmm and think yeah that’s a good idea and then dont move from where I’m curled up shrimp style staring at the nightmare rectangle.
So like. Thinking real hard about moving doesn’t count as moving. Major bummer. Anyways. Joints.
@fucking-relax helps a lot with this tbh
