Remember this...
Speaking of wwx not being morally gray, do you know of any good metas that debunk the claim that "he has tortured and killed people & dug up corpses to control them therefore he is morally grey"?
Like torturing & killing people is definitely bad yeah, but wasn't he doing it as retribution for somewhat equivalent crimes committed against him? I fear whenever I try to explain it I end up sounding like a blind stan lol
I have this meta covering the Sunshot Campaign and the Nightless City Bloodbath, but though I know I've addressed the whole "torturing people" thing, idk where to find a post about it. My on the spot opinion of the "torturing and killing people" bit is that Wei Wuxian has only ever tortured and killed the people who waltzed into his home, had him beat then attempted to have his arm cut off, then killed every single person he grew up with and had a hand in raising him except for two (2) people. And of the three individuals in the novel that fit that description, he only tortured two. Mxtx doesn't write anti-vengeance stories, and I don't have an anti-vengeance morality, so idk what's wrong with seeking revenge against those who harm you unless you have a stake in perpetrators never experiencing consequences from their victims.
the idea that it's morally grey to take vengeance is an extremely judeo-christian-centric idea being superimposed on the western audience's reading of the text by their own cultural bias. their mental framework has been programmed with "turn the other cheek" and they have extrapolated that out to "revenge bad" and then "all violence for any reason bad". as such, they will bend over backwards to read that anti-revenge theme into a text in which it does not exist, to the point where any character who doesn't lie down and meekly allow evil people to walk all over them is called "morally grey". go and say wei wuxian is morally grey in a chinese fandom space. they will assume you're illiterate or trolling
You can't convince me that Seph didn't deal with this issue constantly
Sephiroth gets an anime nose bleed from seeing Cloud in any skin tight or revealing outfits
Cloud shows up to battle wearing several layers but no sword. Sephiroth stares in confusion as Cloud strips a layer. He's still quite covered but he's starting to show some skin. The nosebleed begins slowly. Cloud pulls off another layer. His arms are showing now, and Sephiroth's nose bleeds more. He keeps pulling off layers. Sephiroth's noses bleeds harder and harder. Cloud gets down to his final layer, some lingerie, and Sephiroth drops dead from bloodless.
Cloud puts his clothes back on and leaves. Another victory for the good guys, and he didn't even have to use his sword.
top tier tbh. i have a whole fanfic that’s basically this idea extended

🌌Melian & Thingol
“But he came at last to a glade open to the stars, and there Melian stood; and out of the darkness he looked at her, and the light of Aman was in her face. She spoke no word; but being filled with love Elwe came to her and took her hand, and straightway a spell was laid on him, so that they stood thus while long years were measured by the wheeling stars above them; and the trees of Nan Elmoth grew tall and dark before they spoke any word.”
