My toxic Remus lover trait is that I firmly believe James and Sirius had a real, bad argument only once (1) in their lives and it was when Sirius brought up the idea that Remus was a (the) spy. James got so angry at the idea that Sirius decided not to talk about it with anyone else and instead find a solution (=bring Remus back to them) all by himself.

Original post: "When I realized from this video that Nathan didn’t just steal one photo but possibly several of Max’s photos, it made me wonder if, even though he was mentally a mess, he recognized something of himself in Max: that same obsession with photography. Maybe that’s why he took them. That shared connection over something they’re both deeply absorbed in feels like an interesting possibility to me.
I also really love those scenes in AO3 fanfics where they photograph each other <3"
Agreed on the last point, it's really sweet! But going back to OP's original point— so there's this interesting detail that Japanese LiS fans found that I haven't really heard of before:
If you look at the before/after of the photo wall after Nathan vandalizes it, you can actually see that several photos are missing from the rows, not just one. So maybe he just tore it up in a rage. Maybe he just wanted to make it easier for Max to make out the message (how thoughtful of him). Maybe he just didn't want to vandalize too many of Max's prints (also so very thoughtful 🙃).
Or maybe, he stole more than one print...?
I know this is headcanon territory, but I still think it's interesting to point out. Thoughts?
ohh that is interesting. i can see him tearing some down just because, or even more in peak nathan-being-a-pain, hide them around the room out of spite.
even then, the fact he stole that one particular photo of max and pinned it up so neatly in his room has always stuck with me. he didn't do things to it, like cross her eyes or write over it the way victoria did to rachel's poster, which is also interesting.
also, if i’m not mistaken, the photo of max smiling he takes wasn’t even on her main photo wall, but closer to the desk, together with other pictures of max with her friends and her parents. so he actually looked through all of her photos, inspected all of them, and then chose the one he liked the most?
even the print nathan leaves on max's bed is especially weird: obviously it points to nathan's mental state, but still... where did he get that photo of max to stick next to the goat/lamb's skull? (I still have no idea what it is exactly). the print itself is also very disturbing, but it really just looks like nathan's photography style, like the rest of his photos we find: the skull + still life itself feels like something he'd take a picture of.
and in that print, max's eyes are scratched out.
which makes me wonder: did nathan only put that one together for victoria? was it victoria who told or suggested he leave it out to scare max? and was it victoria who scratched out max’s eyes, the same way she did with rachel’s poster?
especially when you consider that the photo of max in nathan’s room is completely intact, pinned carefully to the wall right next to his bed, literally somewhere he’d see it every day, right by his wardrobe.
anyway, i’m rambling. but there are so many details about nathan’s character that never get fully explained that it’s honestly impossible not to spiral into theories.

“Remus, I need your expert knowledge on something,” Lily said seriously, drunkenly tugging Remus over to a group of girls standing in a circle in the middle of the impromptu holiday party the Gryffindor had thrown.
Remus, who was at least as tipsy as Lily, chuckled and walked over to the group. “What’s up?” he questioned, looking around at Lily, Mary, Marlene, and Alice. “Need to know something about Defense?” It was his best subject.
“We need to know if Potter and Black are dating or not,” Marlene said bluntly, always the first to get to a point. “And don’t play dumb, we all know there’s something there between them, they’re all over each other half the time!”
This made Remus laugh out loud. It was true: Sirius and James were more affectionate than most of the couples of Hogwarts. But they still didn’t seem to realize that they both had feelings for the other. “Sorry, ladies,” he grinned, shrugging. “If you ask them, they’re just friends.”
“Okay, but what about the leash and collar?” Mary pressed, eyes narrowed. “Potter gave Black a bloody leash and collar for Christmas, I heard about it! You’re saying that’s just a joke and note some fucking sex thing?”
Remus let out a loud bark of laughter, remembering the moment when Sirius had unwrapped the package. It was true, it had been intended as a joke, he was sure. But as soon as Sirius had clipped the collar around his neck and handed James the end of the leash? He’d seen the looks on both of his friends’ faces, like they were going to devour each other. The room had gone very hot, and Remus and Peter had made sure to exit as quickly as physically possible. “Again, if you ask them? It was a joke.”
“But if we ask you?” Lily questioned, lips curving upward.
“They’re both idiots,” Remus surmised, laughing. “And I really don’t want to be close by when they figure that out, because if this is how they are now, then I’ll hate to see how disgusting they are when they do date.”
Everyone dissolved into laughter.
I’d like to think the last thing nathan saw was his best friend
Okay, question of the day: what insults would Nathan call Max in languages other than English?
Nathan uses a colorful assortment of creative insults for Max, including:
- Twee bitch (also Tweemo bitch)
- Max Crackfield
- Max Cockfield
- Pixie hipster
- Mysterious Max
- Nosy bitch
Here are a handful of Japanese insults I thought up:
- マックス・クソフィールド (makkusu kusofiirudo) — Literally, "Max Shitfield"
- チビ (chibi) — Tiny (in a mocking tone, it's more derogatory)
- ビッチ (bicchi) — "bitch" literally. in Japanese, people who use English loanwords a lot (esp curses) have a bit of a tryhard vibe, so Nathan strikes me as the exact type to say this
(Medachitagari) — attention-seeker/whore, would fit him referring to her nosiness and/or selfie-taking
As for a few more phrases that fit his back-handed flirting vibe:
- 不思議ちゃんマックス (Fushigi-chan Makkusu) — "Mysterious Max", the -chan suffix comes off condescending and a bit flirtatious
(Kawaii furi shiteru pikushii yarou) — "pixie bitch, acting all cute"
- ぶりっ子 (burikko) — girl who acts overly cute/innocent on purpose; common mocking term for "trying too hard to be adorable," but w that flirty "you're doing it on purpose to mess with me" undertone
It's really fun to see how Nathan speaking in different languages might come up with different types of insults.
Add what you think he might call Max in your language! I'm super curious 😋
i genuinely wouldn't be able come up with anything better in any other language because “max cockfield” is an insult so at the pinnacle of human creativity that it actually had me crying laughing
lil bro really sat there, wrote down max caulfield and went like hmm… which offensive word can i swap into this name today
