our landlord has started ominously talking about doing property valuations for our flat so we’ve decided to make some mortgage appointments to see if we actually have any reasonable chance of buying something if we get kicked out. stressful, hassle, yadda yadda, but the point is i’m filling out this mortgage website’s form with our details and it asks for your occupation via a dropdown menu
unsurprisingly, ‘learning technologist’ aka my job is not listed as one of their occupations. weirdly neither is 'IT support’ which was the next closest position i could think of, but whatever, still not too unusual, but then i started scrolling down the list of what this website DOES have for accepted occupations and now i have some questions about how they establish what jobs need to be included as options
To be fair, being IT support is at any given moment identical to being an astrologer, medium, ventriloquist or ancient monument inspector

Christians love doing stuff like this and making such a person the face of their religion then turn around and get mad when they’re (correctly) seen as insufferable.
Some of the same people upset a Muslim man is poised to be the mayor of New York. But sure, they give AF about supposed “religious discrimination”.
Let my Black behind have thrown a fit like this and I’m sure the same crowd supporting this girl would be telling me to sit my DEI ass down.
hey so i read part of the student’s essay and i want to add a few things:
- it was a 0 out of 25 points. that’s not even a huge deal.
- she only wrote 650 words.
- the girl didn’t do the actual assignment; she just wrote what she felt like and submitted it.
- the class was a PSYCHOLOGY course yet her essay was about her religious beliefs and provided no citations or psychological basis. she simply insisted her argument was true because the bible supposedly says so.
- her entire essay is a mindless rant about how strict gender roles must be upheld and trans people are “demonic”
- her writing—and i cannot stress this enough—is on par with that of a child who doesn’t want to do an assignment. it’s so bad i genuinely thought i was reading a satire article.
- the student is a fucking college JUNIOR writing like a 10-year-old. she is also a psychology MAJOR who thinks everything in the bible is literal and that her religion is the only source anyone needs. this is someone who intends to go into mental health care. she is dangerously bigoted and ignorant, and her professor saw this and was punished for grading accordingly.
here’s a line from her essay:
“Women naturally want to do womanly things because God created us with those womanly desires in our hearts. The same goes for men. God created men in the image of His courage and strength, and He created women in the image of His beauty.”
here’s her teacher’s reasoning for the grade:
“[I am] not deducting points because you have certain beliefs" but rather because the paper “does not answer the questions for this assignment, contradicts itself, heavily uses personal ideology over empirical evidence in a scientific class and is at times offensive.”
the girl is a hate-filled bigot. she is a white christian girl who is now being championed by fox news and turning point usa while her professor sits on fucking forced leave. this is disgusting.
important edit: i have just learned the professor is trans. this hateful brat is actively trying to destroy a trans person’s life.

“the best way to screw jkr over is by making her characters queer!” actually. The best way to screw jkr over is to stop engaging with the property she still profits off of and read a different fucking book
we’re 10 days away from the anniversary of this post breaking my blog, so reblogs are back on! maybe I can get a new blocklist out of this

Never before in my life have I considered that a muppet could be moving around and doing stuff in two places at once. Like that two identical felt puppets of the same guy could exist at the same time and be voiced and operated by different people who can do The Voice
Up until this exact moment if Kermit the Frog in a trench coat and fake moustache stabbed the American president on Live TV while a second Kermit was being filmed on a movie set I’d be like “well obviously one is an imposter”
What do you mean by “ One is an imposter ”?
I mean that if one guy who LOOKS like Kermit Thee Frog is filmed Live committing a crime at the exact same time as a SECOND Mr. The Frog is being filmed Live among witnessed at an entirely different and separate distinct location, I would not say, “there are two Kermits” or even “there are two Kermit puppets and Kermit is a fictional character who has been operated and voiced by many people over the years”, I would say “well the Real Kermit was obviously at work on set at that time and has a solid alibi, but I agree that this other guy does have a pretty strong resemblance” and then I would patiently wait to see what Real Actual Kermit’s legal team has to say on the matter.
The possibility of a real human puppeteer being charged with the crime wouldn’t even cross my mind
Well of course not.
That’s Constantine, the world’s most dangerous frog.

I like how universal of a human experience it is when somebody gets caught doing something they are Not Allowed To Do, but the person who caught them is only like one step above in the authority ladder, and instead of confiscating the means of Prohibited Activity and/or ensuing that the culprit faces appropriate penalty for it, they’ll just go “ok look we both know you’re not allowed to do that, and I’m not allowed to let you do that, but I think that’s a stupid-ass rule and I can’t be fucked to enforce it. So how about you keep a low enough profile that I can plausibly deny that I knew you were doing that if someone else catches you, and I’ll pretend I didn’t see anything. Also we never had this conversation. Shoo.”
Also the way this conversation can amount to a specific glance with a specific facial expression and no loss of clarity

Learned a couple days ago that the concept of the homeowners association basically only exists in the States because their governments don’t spend their citizens’ taxes on things they’re supposed to, like road and path and public green spaces upkeep, so the citizens have once again privatised a public service. Does the US government spend any of its taxes on its people? Isn’t that essentially the basis of the war of independence, a government that demands taxes but fails to use its taxation to benefit its constituents in any way?
