Hornet 2.0!
Needless to say, as a hardcore Hollow Knight fan, Silksong kind of ruled my life for a couple months or so post-release. Had to make something for the occasion, so why not a new and improved Hornet?
She's about 6.5 inches/17centimeters tall, and weighs almost nothing. This one is made in much the same way as the first (albeit bigger and much better made), but she's got some tools as well. Mainly, of course, the needle:
This was made of a kitchen skewer which I added a wire skeleton to, then wrapped with some thread for a base volume before sculpting the main form in epoxy putty and then adding some paper for the final surface. Then it was a simple question of painting and varnishing.
It ended up getting a little messy in parts, and I could do it better a second time, but this is fine for now. I had a fun time painting the Hivesteel motif on it. It's a little wider than the inventory art for it is, but that's a lesson learned to undershoot on wire armatures for things like this. Looks good enough to me.
Then the tool belt:
It sadly doesn't show when she's in most possible poses, but she's got five straight pins, a tool pouch, and a spool of extra Silk (idea originally from @redfirefox55's post here). The straight pins were carved out of the same kitchen skewer as the one that was the base of the needle, with a bit of bent wire for the handle-things. Spool was made of wire, cardstock, and a great deal of frustrated patience. (Do yourself a favor and never make things like this out of cardstock).
Also made her a string of Rosaries and a magnetite brooch so that she can accumulate some more (she'll need it, as she can only afford 2.2 drinks at Halfway Home currently- maybe one bench if she's lucky).
Here's the full kit all laid out (sans the pouch, which doesn't come off):
This Hornet's skeleton is an entirely different beast from that of the first one I made, as I wanted it to be better articulated. So each limb segment is reinforced with added layers and some wrapped thread and connected to the others by only one wire, making it such that she's a lot easier to pose. Helps that she's bigger too.
Some action shots (ft. the corpse of an old clock I have lying around):
It may be a while before I made any more Silksong figures, as I've got plenty else to do, and school is giving me a serious run for my money. Can't promise that I won't get distracted with some other spur-of-the-moment inspiration, though, so who knows. Enjoy the Hornet for now!
(Edit: I made another one- Tiny this time- here)
(Edit 2: Made her some cogflies here)
