witch hat atelier is great because in the first few chapters it looks like its really just going to be a cute magical girl story about hope and friendship but then you keep reading and its about how fascist societies fabricate a social structure to divide how power and information is disseminated and what life is like as a disabled person in that society. and then its also still about hope and friendship, but if hope and friendship could kill you.
My own hot take is that the player community can do a lot to make the game engaging for new players, in ways that don't involve saying 'hey how can we have less story or make the story matter less?' Embrace the fact that a lot of people play FFXIV for the story and
Having people around me (even in novice network) saying how good Shadowbringers was and to look forward to it and how they didn't like Stormblood and thought ARR was too long etc. - really made me rush through the game because I subconsciously thought "oh the game must not be good until Shadowbringers and these expansions must not be good i'll skip text"
it's made me so much more careful of what i say around people who aren't caught up yet because i don't want the same to happen to them
