  • Hey I’m Shelby!

I’m a professional storyboard artist who’s been affected by the recent job drought in the LA film industry, so I’ve been getting back into drawing for fun! I like to draw really dumb things, as well as stuff about haunted places.

I’m working on a graphic novel called “The Devil in the Woods”. In between script rewrites and crying over the page count exploding, I’ve been dabbling in autobio comics, as well as fan art of whatever I’m obsessed with at the moment.

(Also…if you have any job leads feel free to send them my way at [email protected]. I’m also open to commissions! You can check out my prices here.)

Okay, real question for art directors or literary agents…in children’s book illustration portfolios, do you want to see the text on picture book samples or black and white splashes? I’m not applying as an author-illustrator, but I thought it would be fun to give context to the story in my illustration samples.

I don't mean to be all "I can tell you based your style on -" but your art really reminded of Sanda, and I just really like the way you draw people. It feels really cozy :)

  • Aw thank you!! : ]

Hoping these aren’t getting too repetitive. I’ll return to being funny soon

It’s so early this year?! If you didn’t know it’s already started…well…now you know.

  • Today, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting has shut down after the government took away its funding.ALT
There's a famous clip of Mr. Rogers melting the heart of a congressman after Nixon ordered CPB funding be halved.ALT
He spoke of how important this sort of public TV is. He described how on his show, he gives an "expression of care" to let children know feelings are "mentionable". From his ability to speak compassionately about this, PBS got its full funding.ALT
Ten years ago, we would have laughed at the idea that people are calling the Cookie Monster "woke propaganda" on Xitter. Shows like these have somehow been swept up in the culture war and have played a role in the cut funding.ALT
I don't know what the future of PBS will be. All I do know is that every day, I see parents come to our bookstore to read out loud to their children. I'm so glad they're showing up for their kids.ALT
We have new quality shows for kids on YouTube like Miss Rachel. I'm glad kids have folks like her showing up for them.ALT
I'm so sorry our country isn't showing up for you anymore.ALT
I know I just work for a corporate book store, but every time I host story time, it is my "expression of care". I hope these books shine like a light to them.ALT

A lot of public media will be destroyed by this. Public TV and radio are vital for rural areas in our country, and without them, anyone living there will have a difficult time finding out about important news in their area.

One thing you can do is find your local PBS station and click “donate” at the top of the page. https://www.pbs.org/stations/
