It’s a deeply sad and heartbreaking movie. No LGBTQ+ person can watch it and take it lightly. It hits very close to home for a lot of people. So I can’t help but wonder what went through his mind when he chose to bring it to life himself, knowing he had experienced such heavy closeting, you know? There are so many parallels with his own story. Maybe superficially it sounds like an obvious choice for him, given those similarities, but actively choosing to take on that role must have been incredibly painful and complex to navigate.
What I mean is that, a lot of what Harry has done over the years seems to be about reaffirming himself—showing that he’s proud, seeking validation, and wanting to be acknowledged as a queer person. But My Policeman felt different. It wasn’t just about representation or to prove a point. It felt like a personal journey for him. Maybe, in some way, it was healing.
Honestly, I’m just relieved he was in therapy during that time, because I can only imagine how emotionally difficult it must have been.
Allie, I wasn’t in the fandom during the My Policeman days. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when H was discussing auditioning for the part with his management team. I can’t image they were thrilled with the idea of a closeted gay man playing the part of a closeted gay man in a movie while they were trying to get the GP to believe H was in love with women. I’m thinking that H just told them he’s doing the movie no matter what and to deal with it.
Was there any indication that his team tried to stop him or prevent him from being associated with the film? Did it seem like H was doing extra stunts to be allowed to be in the movie?
I mean, Holivia was happening at the same time as My Policeman. Because both movies kind of happened simultaneously and the DWD fiasco completely overshadowed MP. If I had to guess, I’d say Harry constantly finds himself making these kinds of trade-offs… like, doing one thing to be able to do another. It’s a lot of power games and strategic exchanges, I imagine. The key thing is that he’s working toward where he wants to be, and there are undoubtedly many people benefiting from his success who are more than happy to “advise” him on which paths to take.
I just don’t entirely agree with the argument that his own team is working against him or forcing him into things. I think his challenges are on a broader level… labels, industry politics, and the higher-ups controlling the game. I do think his management made quite a few missteps during this period of his acting career, but ultimately, these were still his choices. And if he agreed to Holivia in order to pursue My Policeman more freely and with less interference, well… that was his decision too and that’s GREAT for him. I think this is exactly what he should be doing, tbh. My Policeman had been in the works for a long time, he was already reading the book back in 2020 and making it everyone’s business. So I think it’s safe to say this wasn’t some impulsive move. It was likely a well-discussed and carefully planned decision. Re: your last ask about wasted time. So do you think they’re happy with their closeting now?
I think being happy with their closet is a big statement, so no I don’t think that’s the case, I don’t think they’re happy that they have to hide or do stunts or whatever. If that was the case I don’t think we would see them communicating through their art as a way out of it so much. But although I think that they wish it was different and they will never stop fighting for change, I think they may have found comfort in their “privacy”, I think they’re very open and proud of the people around them ❤️ I think they live a very happy life together.
It feels to me that Tom and Patrick’s story resonates more with what they had in the past, I think Harry could see a lot of his younger self through the entire story, like I said in the previous posts, so many parallels, Harry literally lived through so much of that. And that’s devastating.
But Harry and Louis’ story is so different. They were so brave from the very start, they never let go. They actually have a happy ending, and I’m here to watch every little step they get towards it.

It took me forever to watch it hahah so I feel like everyone already had so many good takes at this point that I don’t think there’s much left for me to say about the movie itself. I love it, I really do.
What baffles me though and I simply can’t get this out of my head is why the fuck Harry had to go and do this movie? This is the question I’ve been asking myself since day one and now that I finally watched it, it seems an even more persistent matter. He is good at acting, and in all of his other movies I was able to forget I was watching Harry, our Harry, on the screen. But not on My Policeman. And it wasn’t because his acting wasn’t good- quite the opposite, he’s wonderful - but it’s just because Harry is Tom. He knew every single one of those emotions, he knows how it feels like, I could see him in every single scenes through Tom.
Listen- I’ve been here for a while, okay?! Around nine years, watching this kid, since he was 19, being desperately in love and crazy proud of who he is. And not being allowed to. And now, out of all the things in the world he could be doing, he’s an actor and he’s playing this closeted man in a movie that isn’t allowed to be with the person he loves, stuck in a fake marriage. He did this movie while playing the exact same role in real life. Out of all things, out of all movies… that’s what he chose. I never wanted to have a peek inside someone’s head so much as I do now, I just want to understand why did he go there, and what this means to him. How does he cope with it.
