about

The Secret Syde were a magical band.Their live shows were a spectacle rivaling early Pink Floyd, with musical freakouts, light shows, and go go dancers.Opening for bands like Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys (Jello is a huge fan!) ,during their short existence, they released one LP,"Hidden Secrets" ,which is a stone-cold classic ,and highly collectable in the neo-psych community ,and Mutha Records ,group of collectors. The first LP was released on Mark "The Mutha" Chesley's ,"Mutha Records",along with other NJ and Jesrsey Shore area bands. This 2nd magnum opus, and what turns out to be their swansong, was recorded ,(there are 4 acetate test pressings in the world) ,but never released, until the early 2000's ,when guitarist Steve DeVito ,re-mastered the Hidden Secrets LP,and this ,at the time ,unreleased 2nd LP,and put it out on a cd. I had Monte Treehorn ,send his copy to our pal ,James Von Springspinnen, and he re-mastered the "Erebus" LP a whopping 31 times!! ,He removed every pop, click, tape drop-out,sour sound ,from the recordings to get this golden sounding record, finally brought to you ,as it was meant to be in 1984 ,on a glorious slab of 12 inch vinyl,to put on one of those old fashioned record players! The artwork shown here may or may not be the final product, that is still up in the air,but the new cover art was line drawn by Steven Reed ,and colored by Gray Meatballs. This release is bittersweet for me,as it is the first vinyl LP on my label,Sluggisha Tapes, est. 1990, and also a lasting tribute to my cousin,Rob Angello, drummer of The Secret Syde ,who left this mortal coil in 2022,I only wish I had released it before his untimely death,so he could of at least seen and heard this music in all it's glory! Still relevant in the present day, like a Syd Barrett led Pink Floyd, their songs are child-like simplicity wrapped in a blanket of neo psych goodness, some in the past have made references to the Smiths,The Cure,Joy Division, and other contemperary bands of the era in which this was recorded. WHEN I REACH 100 PRE-ORDERS ,I CAN START THE RECORD PRESSING PROCESS!! R.I.P. Rob Angello 5/26/1963 - 11/22/2022
