There are 3 realizations you make at the gym.

The first realization is that your body hurts, and the weights you're trying to push away from it are heavy.

Second realization is that there are no weights in your hands at all. They are not real. Nothing is heavy. You're just extending your hands forward.

The third realization is that you, too, aren't real. Your arms aren't extending in front of you at all. You're not at the gym. You're a gay little animal person living in an island. You wile away your days fishing and gardening, and buying new decorations for your house. You have cookouts with the other denizens of the island, and even a summer festival. You lead a life of love and safety for 100 years, and then gently pass away in your sleep, at which point of the rest of the island animals carry you up the small mountain on the island, in a casket filled with flowers. They take turns sharing their memories of you and consoling one another about your passing. They lower you into the ground slowly. down and down.

But why are you still here?

Why are you seeing all this?

But is this really okay? Are you really dead?

No.

No, you're not dead. Your blood rushes through your body. You're alive. Things are heavy again. Your body hurts again.

Time for the next rep.
