it’s frustrating when you’re talking about an inherently oppressive institution that dehumanizes everyone who is subjected to it and someone is like “it’s especially bad for those it is incorrectly applied to!” as though being the intended victim of an injustice makes it less of a tragedy

heres my challenge to everyone for next month, for black history month. any time you want to draw inspiration from art, like poetry, music etc, pick a black artist. web weave with langston hughes and james baldwin and jamaica kinkaid and hanif abdurraqib and derek walcott and set your edits to meghan thee stallion and beyoncé and eartha kitt and coltrane and invoke basquiat in your art and it can be fanworks or original stuff and importantly, it doesnt have to be about race. obviously be cognizant of the context of the art youre using because a lot of the artists i mention specifically create art about racism but like. take your white doomed yaoi ship and make a webweave to poem by langston hughes. set an edit to body by meghan thee stallion. engage with black art in all contexts.

you can reblog this. other people should also be exposed to this idea.

something i find very obnoxious in fiction is when a story presents us with a society of structural misogyny and decides it wants to deal with misogyny within its text but can’t commit to exploring the precarity of heterosexual relationships within that system. so you end up with these relationships where these feminist or proto-feminist women end up happily ensconced within the heterosexual marriage and its like fine and they don’t have any complicated feelings about it bc their husbands like them and are nice guys. which like. does nothing to counter the insane societal issues faced by these women and also insultingly implies that happiness and self-actualization can only be found for these women within the safe harbor created by a graciously tolerant man. this post is about bridgerton and also jujutsu kaisen fanfic.

i know gender and sexuality arent exactly the same but “i could survive being with a man” is comphet. “i could survive living as a man” sounds much the same. you’re not meant to live in survival mode. it sounds like you do *need* to transition

That’s… fair

with 2+ years of hindsight (and almost 10 months of HRT), I want to thank this anon, because I think genuinely this played a significant role in helping me to start transitioning.

I’ve been so much happier since then, and especially since starting HRT. Yeah, there are new struggles and anxieties and problems to adapt to, but I’m also learning how to enjoy life and find myself and love myself, and it’s definitely worth it.

Over the past year I’ve laughed and cried and been able to look at myself in the mirror and selfies and enjoy what I look like. I’ve felt more comfortable with my body, and worn outfits and accessories that I’ve been daydreaming about for over a decade. I’ve felt pretty, which was not something that I thought was possible.

If you’re on the fence about transitioning, please know that it’s enough to chase joy. If you think you’d be happier, that’s enough. You don’t have to have known since you were a toddler. You don’t have to be so depressed that you can’t bear another day as your AGAB. You don’t have to “earn” or “deserve” to transition. It’s enough to want it.

From the article:

“If you look only at the trend of species declines, it would be easy to think that we’re failing to protect biodiversity, but you would not be looking at the full picture,” said Penny Langhammer, lead author of the study and Executive Vice President of Re:wild. What we show with this paper is that conservation is, in fact, working to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. It is clear that conservation must be prioritized and receive significant additional resources and political support globally, while we simultaneously address the systemic drivers of biodiversity loss, such as unsustainable consumption and production.”

This massive meta analysis (for those not familiar, a study analyzing the results of many studies on similar topics) found that the vast majority of conservation efforts show much much better results than doing nothing. In many cases, biodiversity loss was not only stopped but reversed.

This shows that conservation efforts really work and money invested is put to very good use. Legally protecting endangered species really works, restoring habitat really works, removing endangered species really works, returning land to Indigenous communities works. All of the blood, sweat, and tears being poured into protecting the natural world has been making a real, big, tangible, difference on a global scale.
