things in fic I'm used to people kind of faking their way through writing about:

  • how getting high works
  • how a child of any age speaks
  • how nuclear physics work
  • how [my job] works
  • how debilitating being shot in the shoulder is
  • how hypothermia works

things I have never before seen someone fake their way through writing about, until today:

  • what french toast is

Dumb/niche post:

I want a specific kind of Bible that I’d probably have to special order, because I highly doubt it exists right now.

First, I want it to be the NRSV

Second, I want it to be a “reader’s Bible” - which is to say, single column format, without chapter/verse numbers

Already, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t exist

but I’m not done!

I want the Hebrew Scriptures to be in the same order as the Tanakh, rather than the Christian canonical order

I want the Christian New Testament to have the Gospels first (as is normal), except with Acts following immediately after Luke

And I want all of the epistles in chronological order (or the best we can get based on the most recent data, I know there’s some disagreement on dates for some of them)

I ran into this post years ago and to be honest, it has completely reoriented the way I engage with food.

Like. I’ve always sorta understood that things grow moldy or stale or sour or such if left out, but I never really internalized it in a meaningful way.

But now I’m just like.

Yeah. The hungering dust. There exists omnivorous dust in the air that will eat my food if I don’t.

Those bagels have been sitting there for a week. Are we going to eat them soon or are we leaving them for the hungering dust?

Pizza’s been sitting out on the counter for an hour. Everyone’s enjoying the pizza, but if we don’t want “everyone” to include the hungering dust then we should probably put it away soon.

That’s just. That’s how food works to me now. There exists an invisible predator in the air that hungers for your yummies, and it will not hesitate to eat your food if you don’t make the effort to protect and preserve it. And eat what can’t be preserved before the dust can.

Life-changing.

At some point we’ve gotta acknowledge how one massive bogeyman in USAmerican culture is “unsavory” victims like drug addicts

“I don’t want my charitable contributions going to support drug addicts” you mean you don’t want to support someone who’s being preyed upon by malicious actors

It’s very easy to become addicted, it’s very difficult to escape addiction, and the best way to get out of addiction is with community support

But in spite of that, drug addicts are frequently demonized, perhaps even more so than drug dealers

The Brahma, a popular giant known for its massive meat production and comically large eggs.

I love this incredibly niche complaint! Get some heritage breeds, they do totally still exist. Same could likely be said about some other animals like pigs, sheep, and cows.
