Thoughts on Lazard?
I’ve read bits and pieces. I learned today that it’s actually going to be included in the new Nojima Novella coming out.
As for Lazard, it’s always good to see him. I find it interesting that the translation here refers to him as “General” instead of “Director”. Guess that puts an end to the “General Sephiroth” fanlore lol Lazard’s the one running the show.
Apparently he did really well in military! And even in that short novella focusing on Cloud’s childhood, Lazard is still portrayed to be super kind, especially to those he outranks.
Also, while Lazard was in the military, it’s possible Sephiroth wasn’t. Maybe he was a SOLDIER (who are separate from military, it’s mentioned in several places including this story) from the start, because normally SOLDIER is someone who did so well in military they we chosen to be given Jenova cells.
Fandom for years:
“And then General Sephiroth commanded the legions of Shinra to—”
Some rando Shinra troops in canon:
“Erm you can’t tell us to evacuate to safety because of an attack, bro. Not official orders 🤓”
And then he had to run over to help them BY HIMSELF and they only fought beside him because they could see how hard he was fighting, NOT because he gave them an order.
Guy had no power in Shinra. He had STATUS. But status is NOT the same as power. He was a glorified attack dog who won people over through his reputation. But not because he actually had the authority or rank to command them.
Military and SOLDIER are different departments. Sure Lazard steals Heidegger’s best men, but Sephiroth can only be a stubborn little shit who gets what he wants when it comes to SOLDIER. Not infantry
