Top: textures on various walls in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door contain small wanted posters for three criminals: a Goomba, a Koopa Troopa and a Boo.
Bottom: the Art Gallery in the Nintendo Switch version of the game provides concept art for these characters. This reveals that the Boo is nearly identical to Bootler, Lady Bow’s butler from Paper Mario (and who has a small cameo in this game as well), having the same closed eyes, mustache, and pale green color. Assuming this is indeed him, this implies that Bootler was a wanted criminal either in the past or even in the current day.
According to backstory divulged by a Toad NPC from Paper Mario, Bootler used to “travel the world with Goompa and Koopa Koot” in his youth, which the Goomba and Koopa in the artwork may be intended to be young versions of. This is, however, not entirely likely as Koopa Koot has a turquoise shell while this Koopa has a red shell; though shells are exchangeable and it might in fact be the same character.
i had a dream involving AZ.. he was wandering around the ruins of an elaborate puppet theater stage and he looked so forlorn 🥺 there were some kids playing and he tried to talk to them and said 'i used to be king' and they replied 'that's silly'

It’s still so crazy you dreamt about this, what a wild coincidence 😭 and it’s something I could see happening to him too… Even the “getting negged by children” part 💔 thank you for thinking to tell me about this, it’s genuinely super compelling to me !
The fact that yamAZsk can mega evolve implies that like Floette he’s unable to evolve further (which is kind of a relief as Cofagrigus forgets that it was ever human upon evolution and I don’t wanna think about that too hard lmao) but also that Urbain/Taunie or the MC could possibly help him use said mega without it causing him pain or panic.
That being said what’s bro’s moveset?
You’re exactly right 🙂↕️💞 I did think about giving him an evo in the past, but the only design I could think of that made sense was “runigerus-esque design based on his grave’s headstone” and well I just didn’t want to. I just didn’t want to figure out the logistics of that 😭 besides, I think him paralleling Floette is a lot more awesome anyways 😤
I’ve thought about that too, the idea of him eventually being able to utilize that form comfortably… It would take a long time to get to that stage, but I imagine like Floette, he’s willing to do anything to keep the people he loves safe, he just needs a bit more time to get used to the new abilities… 🙂↕️
His moveset… He’s grass/ghost, so I was imagining it’s:
- sunny day
- solar beam
- light of oblivion (ghost type light of ruin equivalent; may change the name if I think of anything better though 🙇🏾♀️)
And for the last move I was thinking phantom force or maybe return as a reference to his pkmn team but I’m not sure yet 🤔 if anyone has suggestions I’m willing to hear you out 🙂↕️
Floette’s mega is very evocative of her trauma, so I wanted YamAZk’s mega to be much the same 💔 I see them as having different relationships with their trauma as well. Floette is very literally able to turn hers into a strength. That doesn’t mean she has no complicated or bitter feelings towards it (the flower that is life-giving but also something that drags her down), but she’s able to protect the people she cares about; she has a very strong sense of justice. The way she’s tethered to it still allows her some small freedom. For AZ I wanted to focus on the idea of him being unable to stop himself; irrational emotions preventing him from thinking, acting on pure feeling. He’s completely shackled to the shadow of his past, a physical embodiment of everything he hates about himself. Where Floette tries to be hopeful about the future, AZ is drowning in his past 😔
Talking about Floette’s mega earlier made me want to work on YamAZk’s mega …. Removed the throne aspect cuz as much as I loved it it felt like it was over cluttering an already somewhat complex design 😭
Not 100% happy with this palette so I will probably make adjustments (want to make the body lighter but haven’t found a tone that’s lighter And looks good…), but the goal is for him to slightly resemble an overgrown tree…

If I think about the symbolism with Floette’s mega too hard I start feeling crazy … The flower mega evolves while floette is unable to grow, unable to change due to her revival … Forever a little girl, the flower wraps around her like an umbilical cord …. At the same time, Floette is symbolic of a mother’s love; the imagery brings to mind how love can blossom and grow, but also how it can be smothering and stifling. The flower itself has become massive, and heavy. It is her anchor, weighing her down and keeping her bound to her past. But it is also her strength. Without her flower, she cannot protect those she loves, something she is well aware of. The ultimate weapon was built in the shape of the flower, but when it mega evolved it embodies that appearance even more, this weapon of mass destruction associated with an incredibly deep love.
Red in the context of the game– the colour of destruction, of death, of chaos. Blue, life-giving, light, a symbol of growth. The flower now embodies both. It is Xerneas and Yveltal, Life and Death, and like AZ himself a symbol of duality.
The fact that she’s gazing so apprehensively at the flower (which is literally overshadowing her) makes me want to blow up and die btw 🥹 and she’s so small in comparison rjdoejsoejsks
