was reading about birth control methods and saw one that said "dont worry, this wont stop your periods!" which was fascinating wording to me. like dont worry? whos the sick fuck thats like "yeah i dont want to get pregnant but i ABSOLUTELY want to continue bleeding once a month thats very important to me."

#someone who needs to fully hide that they're on birth control from the rest of the people in their life

okay this is a fair answer because i fully hadnt considered that other people could be aware of someones elses periods and track them. a level of nosy i hadnt comprehended. if anyone out there is in that position i am so sorry, thats fuckin Rough.

so I have not had a proper period in probably a decade at this point thanks to the Depo shot and I'd like to expand on these tags, because while there isn't inherently really a problem with like, not bleeding, the way they prevent the bleeding does indeed have side effects

(please keep in mind this is mostly anecdotal and based off my own experiences, not everyone reacts to BC the same way)

a common issue is osteoporosis, if you're on a progesterone based birth control like Depo it essentially just halts your cycle in its tracks, but in doing so it affects your calcium levels so you usually need a calcium supplements or to increase your dairy intake, they also recommended this when you reach menopause because your natural hormone shift at that time holds similar risks

another thing that can go wrong is too much progesterone/not enough oestrogen, it can thin your uterine lining to the point you develop a 'breakthrough bleed', which can vary in severity but the one time it happened to me I was passing full clots of blood and the cramps were so bad I was left immobile and speechless, my parents had to take me to hospital to make sure I hadn't ruptured something and I have genuinely blocked most of that night from my memory that level of pain was so traumatic

that said, it only happened to me once in the years I've been on Depo, and if you catch it early and up your oestrogen you can avoid a situation like this, mine got so out of hand because I was never warned about it or told what to do if it happened (the doctor that put me on it barely warned me about anything he fucking sucked)

on top of all of this, there's been a very recent discovery that some progesterone based contraceptives can cause brain tumours, the company who make the Depo shot are currently facing a class action lawsuit in France because of it, I do believe they are still researching this but last I checked they'd determined that it can affect a small percentage of people over the age of 35 who've been using the shot longterm

I don't want to scaremonger about contraceptives but they are a medication that comes with risks and the current medical system has a pretty nasty habit of not disclosing said risks, I am still on the Depo despite the side effects because I take it for pain management and PMDD, and the fact that I kept on it even after my breakthrough bleed situation can probably tell you all you need to know about how horrendous my periods typically were that I'm willing to keep taking that risk

the brain tumours however are another story, I aim to find an alternative before I turn 35, that is a risk I do not consider worth it

basically you should do your own research on what type of birth control you want to use, and weigh those risks against the rewards, only you can decide what is or isn't worth it to you

why are there 5,000 people on this site holding back from doing something with literally zero repercussions for anyone in a world that will never remember the chances you didn’t take? don’t waste your time on this earth live your life slap some rice

yaboybigbadguzma

Hi my job is literally to reset the shelves and honestly??

Slap that rice. Slap it good. patting down the bags makes it easier to stack more, which means when I have to do it it’ll be flatter and more settled and more likely that I can just slide it along without it slidin’ around.

You are doing me a FAVOR by slapping that rice.
