"you can't pick and choose what you like from canon" common misconception! yes you can

but please do not get this very true concept confused with “you cannot pick and choose what is canon”

they are two very different things.

thank you for this addition seriously

Maybe it's just the times we're living in right now, but the older I get the more I genuinely do not care about people doing weird shit with their identities. I'm so tired of the infighting. So what if someone practices pop culture paganism, or uses the label butch despite being bisexual, or is flirty and aroace, or whatever else people are getting up other people's asses about. If it's not genuinely harmful, supporting hate or spreading dangerous rhetoric then who tf cares. The world is trying to kill us all right now and literally nobody knows where we're headed, so stop whining online and go watch anime or something

This phrase has already entered my vocabulary re: media criticism where like. The viewer has a concrete view of what they expect a story to be based on the tropes and cliches they're used to seeing together, and when that doesn't happen, they judge it as a failed depiction of what they assumed it was going to be instead of judging it as what it actually is.

"This show is problematic because the hero didn't kill the villain at the end": When does he steal the bread?

"These two characters who were close friends throughout the series don't kiss at the end! What the fuck?": When does he steal the bread?

"This feels like it's missing a conclusion! Like, the protagonist does bad stuff and because of a critical decision he makes as a result of his major character flaws, meets tragedy in the end! Where's the part where he learns better and brings is love back from the dead and becomes a good guy and gets a happy ending?": When does he steal the fucking bread??

I heard this out as "When criticizing something, you must judge it for what it is, not what it isn't"

when i say you should forgive yourself i do mean all of you. its a noble war you gotta try and win. me i was born to writhe. theres no winning outlined out there for me

As an aroace person I actually never had that feeling of being broken. I thought everyone was the same way and some people were just dramatic 😭

THIS IS SO FUCKING FUNNY THATS EXACTLY HOW I FELT WATCHING ATTACK OF THE CLONES FOR THE FIRST TIME LMAOOOOO 😭😭😭😭

People need to understand that the point ISN’T “being single is not a failure if you’re aromantic”, the point is being single is not a failure full stop.

You can be allo and be single; it’s allowed. You feeling attraction doesn’t mean your priority NEEDS to be finding romance (it can be! But it also can not).

Being single should be normalized no matter what your romantic/sexual orientation is. It isn’t a tragedy.

Hate it when TikTok farm cosplayers and cottagecore types say stuff like "I'm not going to use modern equipment because my grandmothers could make do without it." Ma'am, your great grandma had eleven children. She would have killed for a slow cooker and a stick blender.

I’ve noticed a sort of implicit belief that people used to do things the hard way in the past because they were tougher or something. In reality, labor-saving devices have historically been adopted by the populace as soon as they were economically feasible. No one stood in front of a smoky fire or a boiling pot of lye soap for hours because they were virtuous, they did it because it was the only way to survive.

I woke up feeling slightly less shit today, and I'm still testing negative for COVID, so here's hoping I picked up a regular cold from the kids and that's why the last two days have felt like swallowing razor blades.

Also negative for flu A and B, though I don't have any at-home tests for the weird hybrid thing going around, so I'm continuing to isolate and rest to avoid any potential complications from PEM.

Hey, um...what weird hybrid thing? I'm wondering if that's what my kid caught about a month ago that tested negative for strep, both types of flu, and covid, but made her miserable for a week.

I just really hate the word "fandom". It's just a portmanteau of "fan" and "random". It sounds like some desperate attempt to be quirky and different. Plus, the word "fanbase" already exists.

idk, i thought it was fan + kingdom, or fanatic + domain??

but yeah, it is a bit weird how we have ‘fandom’ when ‘fanbase’ already existed? but that’s language for you, always changing all the time

Actually, Anon, fandom is significantly older than fan base or fanbase; the OED gives the first known citation of fandom meaning “the community of fans of a thing” from 1903, while their first entry for fan base isn’t until the 1970s. If you compare the frequencies of the two terms in Google Ngram Viewer, you’ll see that fandom has historically been far more frequent, with fan base running a distant second (and the closed form fanbase an even more distant third).

The OED also rejects your portmanteau hypothesis, though I suppose sportswriters from the 1900s might’ve been trying to be quirky and different when they coined fandom from the productive derivational suffix -dom, which the OED also gives copies examples of throughout the 1800s (including BA-dom, old fogey-dom, blizzard-dom and theater-dom.

Respect the fandom, guys. It’s older than Steve Rogers.

percussionists love to play with blood on their hands it's enrichment for them. my mallets used to rub the skin away in the middle of my palm it was literally marimba stigmata

(im definitely visiting when I get out of the car!!! will update on how silly it really is!)

Welcome!

Blog upkeep

“Can I submit signs that aren’t in English?” Yes of course! Would also appreciate a translation of it if possible! (Especially appreciated if it involves puns or word play)

“Where can I submit signs?” Either as an ask or submission, I’m fine with either-or. Just not through DMs please.

“Can I submit signs anonymously?” Yes! You can refer to this post here for other solutions, but easiest for me is to have signs submitted to my ask box with a note saying you want to remain anonymous- I will post it separately as it’s own post.

“I drew/editted together a sign, can I share it?” Absolutely and yes please! I accept artworks as well

Enjoy your stay! (:

Greater shenanigans await!
