There’s a post going around Tumblr about how if you’re post-menopausal and have bleeding, you should get it checked by your doctor. I brought some minor bleeding I’d had up in a doctor visit earlier this year, prompted by that post, and this week, after a biopsy, I found out I have cancer. It’s early stage and the survival odds at 5 years are 99%. I have an oncologist appointment and we may have caught it early enough that surgery alone will be sufficient treatment (no radiation/chemo).

So that post may have saved my life and it may have made my treatment a lot easier too.

If you get into menopause and then start bleeding again, really, get your reproductive innards checked out. The life you save may be your own.

this morning i noticed my cat was freaking out more than usual. he’s an anxious kitty (he’d been a stray for 3 years when we got him, then we had two moves with a very rough period in between). usually he has a routine that i do with him that helps him calm down but today it just wasn’t working and i couldn’t figure out why he was so stressed out. he kept bapping me on the head and waking me up and running around and eventually i realized what the issue was.

on monday i had a skin biopsy that left a pretty sizeable wound. yesterday i spent pretty much all day feeling like shit and laying around, and today i was supposed to clean it and change the dressing. he was panicking because he could smell the wound, saw me laying in bed all day, and he wasn’t sure if i was okay. i got up, and as i removed the old bandage he started WAILING. just completely losing it when he saw it. he clearly understood that something like that wasn’t good. i made sure he didn’t touch it, but i let him smell me and see that i was okay, and he watched me clean and re-bandage it and pretty much the second it was done he immediately calmed down.

ten minutes later and he’s purring and snuggly and ‘guarding me’ from such scary things as Loud Noise Outside and Blanket Moving Weird. this cat is better at taking care of me than i am some days.

one of my easily triggered rants is that it’s reactionary to hate sad endings and horror and kink and narratives that deal with unpleasant real world issues, because what you’re demonstrating is a reluctance to engage with discomfort. people who say “I just don’t see the point of sad endings, we deal with enough crap in real life,” or stuff of that ilk are doubling down on their rejection of discomfort and rationalizing it, and guess what, that’s a reflex that doesn’t just end with media consumption.

One of these things is not like the other.

if you’re trying to single out kink as not being worth defending, then no, it is exactly like the others. having a visceral reaction of discomfort and disgust when encountering kink in narratives, a feeling that you then rationalize and double down on, is reactionary.

i dont consider myself a ‘fashion guru’ by any means but one thing i will say is guys you dont need to know the specific brand an item you like is - you need to know what the item is called. very rarely does a brand matter, but knowing that pair of pants is called 'cargo’ vs 'boot cut’ or the names of dress styles is going to help you find clothes you like WAAAYYYY faster than brand shopping

this also goes for aesthetic or -core titles. 'y2k tank top’ is going to get you resellers and fast fashion brands advertising to people looking to meet a current trend. 'thin strap crop tank top’ is going to get you a diverse group of results and not upcharge you to hell and back

additionally, shop second hand when you can, second hand and thrift sites typically organize clothes by the cut and color. theyll be more affordable than a depop seller curating you a style to sell you

  • letting people be wrong
  • letting people be wrong about YOU
  • letting people have a bad impression of you (see above)
  • knowing when your input isn’t needed
  • spotting bot comments
  • block button

blocking tip: you don’t have to wait to have a negative interaction with someone to block them. you can block them without ever interacting with them. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen someone being rude to someone else and preemptively blocked them
