Be a moon unto yourself

@stareitdown

She pressed the dagger to his throat, and he only smiled. “I’ve heard a lot about you, Bhaalspawn.” Her Father’s voice was insistent. The dagger hovered close to his skin – so close she could almost feel his blood through the steel. So close that any man would start crying for some help. But then he spoke again. “I admit, I thought you’d be faster… and, well, more effective. But since you’re here – sit down. We have an alliance to make.” “What kind of alliance,” she asked, “starts with me standing over you with a blade, lordling?” “Best one. The honest kind.”

Thank you!

And serious spoilers for the Bone Spindle

2. Spam clicking

((what's behind me? Heh, only the past which is dust. What' in front? Nothing.))

((wonder what Barspir* doing. Barspir...painting picture. Picture of ...Ragar.))

((...mother? Is that you?))

7.

((next person who touch me finds the sharp end of my knitting needle))

((Ileleste will help you into hot bath to calm your nerves. By put his foot on your head))

11.

((Don't get too distracted))

((Alurrussin... for you I am strong))

((...want to run away together?))

29. Lae'zel party banter

Lae'zel: you look familiar. Yet I have never left the bound of Creche Kili'ir before.

Ileleste: Gods above, Lae'zel had to do something naughty sometimes. Disobey something, why not?

Lae'zel: Why do I know you?

Ileleste: Lae'zel does not know Ileleste. Look at those trees.

Lae'zel: No. I am disobeying. Why do you look familiar?

Ileleste: You know one of Ileleste siblings. They take from Gith settlements for parts.

Lae'zel: Spelljammer parts?

Ileleste: Yeah, sometimes.

(I find Lae'zel really hard to write!))

(He hasn't mentioned his son by name, but it is indeed Barspir. I use this old reddit post to build drow names: https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/15gb1sy/drow_name_tables_from_dragon_magazine/)

I’ve got beef with dnd coin design

Why do only some of them have holes in them?

Other things about this design are also bothering me. Who wants all those pointy bits jangling around in their pocket? You could take someone’s eye out with those silver or gold coins. I mean there have been triangular or square coins in real world history but the points were usually rounded off.

Japan still has only two coins with holes in and the rest not. Cultures keep some things from their antiquity and sometimes they don't

What would your Tav/Durge say if they could say unique dialogue?

Drop an ask with the name of my Tav or Durge and a few numbers, and I'll respond with a few lines they would say in that scenario! Or, tag someone to take on the Tav Banter/Dialogue Challenge and see if they'll answer a few of these prompts!

What are some situational dialogues they would say when something happens to another companion or you talk to them while in a quest-specific location (such as commenting on Karlach's heart, Elminster visiting Gale, visiting Cazador's mansion, etc)? 37. How would they respond to a player character prompting them with, "Tell me about yourself"? 38. If a player character asks them to consider consuming tadpoles or using the Astral tadpoles, how would your Tav/Durge respond? 39. If romanceable, what lines would they say if a player character prompted them with, "Can I kiss you?" 40. If romanceable, what would they say if a player character asks for a "last kiss" at the Morphic Pool/HIgh Hall?

favorite thing about japan?

I'd like to say haiku, but when I say that, I mean that haiku as an art form kind of exemplifies my favourite thing about Japanese culture is their attention to detail, and their reverence of/reference to nature*

I see people all the time stop to take photos of or look at flowers, there is a huge culture of trainspotting, of model building, of flower arranging (ikebana), etc and everything is not just clean, but very precisely placed and thought about; and kept.

When I was first recontracted, the admin staff gave me a fan with a swallow on the cover, because during the spring the first thing I did when I arrived at school was stop to look at the swallows nesting (and the second thing was smile and say good morning to the admin.) I don't think I ever had a proper conversation with them (language barrier, both of us shy) but they noticed that. In fact, before I even got there, they bought me a hanko which is a name stamp that you use in lieu of a signature, and she noticed I was born in the autumn so she bought me a beautiful case for it with autumn leaves on it.

I also enjoy the concept of wabi-sabi, of enjoying nature's 'mistakes' but also the idea of 'one meeting, one chance' where basically you do your best all of the time, because you might never have it again.

The nature is gorgeous, when I start moving my photos I'll probably post some. Also, because it's so thin, the sea is so ever-present, which is just glorious

I would whole-heartedly recommend visiting Japan, just NOT Kyoto. It is genuinely awful how crowded it is because of tourists. And anything you want to see in Kyoto, you can see something incredibly similar somewhere else, from geisha to the famous torii to very tall pagodas. Nara is wonderful if you go off-season, but again, it's getting very full. I'm biased, of course, when I say come to Shikoku, but Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Nagano, Nagoya, Gifu etc ... beautiful

(*I am aware of their piss-poor record of and reliance on fossil fuels)

WIP Day

kindly tagged by @tociminna

this is from the Bone Spindle which just got 1000 hits, so I'm feeling very grateful that people like me story. We are finally at Tiefling Party, except .... it's all gone wrong.

This wip piece has SPOILERS for Chapter 13, although if you were following closely you probably already worked it out

Can't recall who's been tagged so: @stupidsexywizard @optimisticgrey @bhaalest

‘So you’re a family man, then?’

Gale leaned out of his tent, clearly drunk. If Ileleste had been watching from the sidelines, he’d have said that Gale was jealous. But he was lucky to have had one lover - such as he was - and one marriage - such as it was, with everything that Ileleste was and had been and could never be.

Gale clearly had a spider up his arse about something else, and it intrigued Ileleste, who was sick of people being very good to each other right about now.

((my husband has three daughters from his first marriage. We have one son together. And all of my brothers and sisters and aunties and uncles.))

‘You never mentioned him.’

((I did. And I showed you memory of him.))

‘You never said he was your husband. In fact, I distinctly remember you said friend.’

((I said khal’abbil. Common does not have this word, I think. The person you trust most in this world.))

‘He must be quite the man, then. Quite the wizard, if I’m remembering your memory correctly.’

((he stop being wizard after he hurt our son in accident. Now he is bard, like he always dream of. But then he go to Calimsham to be bard in noble court. He was supposed to be back three years ago.))

Gale takes a long drink from his goblet. ‘Calishite schools are hardly a match on Blackstaff. But I don’t recall much barding happening in either. Not much of a oh, I don’t know how to pronounce it. Not much of a person you can trust, is he?.’

((Now you know why I don’t speak of him.))

Gale regards him with dark eyes. ‘Where is your son?’

((him at school in Imberlur. One of the first boys to become scholar. You would like. Him know Common, and reading, and histories.))

‘Why doesn’t he teach you Common? Or how to read?’ ((Only see him every fourth moon. Want to make sure he not become all dusty. Make sure he remember how to dance, and sing, and fish, and fight. He is Leste’s to look after, not to look after Leste.))

like when people say 'japan is weird' thats not always just culture shock from the west

sometimes it really is cars advertising escorts driving around the same inner city blocks absolutely blasting the most annoying hyper pop song advert

ugh

gotta go back out in a few minutes to see if the fuij cult have done anything to my wheelchair

gotta let them clear the building first

the fuji cult aren't like jehovahs witnesses or mormons who are usually only dangerous to people who are within their cult, but the fuji cult can be incredibly over the top

she seemed incredibly surprised when i immediately refused as soon as I saw the paper

like bitch i live in the middle of the city i see you guys daily

god but i wish my building had a fucking locked front door so these weirdos couldnt come in

oh and nhk have been sending me threatening letters saying they know I watch it

bitch I don't even have a TV fuck off with that, the BBC tried that in the 80s it didn't work

and whats sad is that NHK world (free to view on YouTube) puts out decent programming

Hate it when TikTok farm cosplayers and cottagecore types say stuff like "I'm not going to use modern equipment because my grandmothers could make do without it." Ma'am, your great grandma had eleven children. She would have killed for a slow cooker and a stick blender.

I’ve noticed a sort of implicit belief that people used to do things the hard way in the past because they were tougher or something. In reality, labor-saving devices have historically been adopted by the populace as soon as they were economically feasible. No one stood in front of a smoky fire or a boiling pot of lye soap for hours because they were virtuous, they did it because it was the only way to survive.
