Please can we bring back the "treat people how you want to be treated" and "imagine if that was you" mindset.
Every single day I will be having a conversation with my (admittedly, teenage girl opinionated as hell) friends and someone's name will come up and suddenly it's "eww I hate them" or "I hope ___ never happens to them". And it's for absolutely no good reason. If they've actually done something worth hating them for or have hurt you in some way then absolutely go for it think whatever you like I'll probably be on your side, but the fact is most of the time it's because "they're so weird" or "they're so annoying" or "they're so loud". Okay? Imagine if someone was saying that about you.
Imagine someone else was talking about you behind your back and saying "I hope she fails on her journey to find love, no one in their right mind would voluntarily fill that void in her life". (Actual things said a few hours ago, about a boy I don't really know but have spoken to in classes before).
And it's just because they think he's "weird". So at least he's not boring? He's not my cup of tea either but I'm not going to outright insult him and wish him bad things just because of my opinion.
It's horrible and it makes me wonder if we've really failed that much as a society that this is now considered "normal".

It actually hurts my heart that this is what I constantly see commented on fanart of rarer ships. People on Pinterest don't seem to understand that you should LET PEOPLE SHIP WHO THEY WANT. Who cares if it's platonic? Who cares if it's romantic? It's not affecting you if people think two people who are "brothers", when not related by blood, are romantically compatible.
I've posted about this before ik but I saw it happening again and this gorgeous fanart deserves praise not complaints

People don't know how to behave in fandom anymore, i swear. This drawing was meant to be platonic, but even if it was romantic, who cares?
'Don’t like, don’t watch' and 'ship and let ship' used to be basic fandom etiquette. Not every piece of art needs to align with someone else’s personal boundaries or headcanons. If something isn’t for you, you can simply scroll past it. Constantly commenting discomfort or moral judgments on someone’s fanart (or fanfic, or headcanon) doesn’t make fandom safer, it just makes it smaller and more hostile.
Not everything is made for everyone, and that’s okay. Let people create. Let people ship. Let people exist in fandom.
For real!! I completely agree with you. Personally I saw it as platonic, but it was the fact people went out of their way to comment about how they don't like the ship and hating on it that pissed me off because literally how does it affect them?
It's horrible how people are driving creators out of fandoms with their view of what is completely right to ship and what is wrong, it's suffocating.

I’m probably half-awake watching a show I downloaded before the flight :)
I was anxious about the trip and thus didn't sleep or eat the night before and now have a pounding ache in my right eye (every time, I swear), but I'm also incapable of sleeping on a plane so I've just tied a belt over my right eye like an eye patch and slumped forward and am lazily watching whatever the person next to me or in front of me is watching with my other eye.
well, first off, i give prev all 5 of the granola bars inside my backpack. and then i'll probably stare out the window for however long and listen to smalltown boy on repeat (idk why but the last two times i was on a flight, this is exactly what i did.)
surreal to see this literally as I get off of a gruelling long-haul flight haha
going off of what I did just now, I'm going to binge watch my fave shows and movies, and then fail to sleep due to my very specific needs for when I sleep, resulting in nauseating jet lag and a very grumpy attitude (sorry in advance)
I'm reading the silmarillion with my noise cancelling headphones on, simulation swarm by big thief playing softly so I can better tune out the sounds of the engines
staring out the window listening to music on my ipod and imagining either silly low budget music videos or dramatic dance sequences to go with them. it will be fun until about the 4 hour mark, when i will start crying from exhaustion and frustration because i just want to get off the damn plane.

The lack of video content is what kept us here... I thought we all agree that the best feature of this hellhole was and always will be anonymity.
Tumblr's not asking for my phone number. It's not going through my contacts to try and connect me with my fucking colleagues. I can come here and talk about whatever I want without anyone ever seeing my face or hearing my voice. I don't have to censor myself and hide my interests or enthusiasm out of fear of consequences it might have in my real life.
I think the biggest misunderstanding they have of Tumblr is that they think of it as a social media platform when in actuality it's a blogging platform with social features.
I like the use of Metroman here because if there's one thing Tumblr users collectively agree on it's that we want everyone to think we're dead
