I'm excited to announce that Without a Dawn trading cards are now available! 💛

• Use ogg format.
  
• Create a folder named va in the game’s base folder.
  
• Carefully follow the dialogue file structure:
  
• Create a folder named part_01 inside the va folder.
  
• Place your ogg files inside the part_01 folder. Name the ogg files following the dialogue file. For example, The line 1=Are you awake? file name should be 1.ogg.
  
• Once you’re finished with part_01, create a new folder named part_02 and repeat.
  
  
• I recommend leaving tenth of a second (100ms) of silence in the beginning of the ogg files.
  
  
• Keeping a backup of your voice acting is a good idea!

Palettes:
• Without a Dawn uses only three colors.
  
• You can create a new color palette by making a copy of the default.png, which is located in the palettes folder. The name of the file will act as the name of the palette.
  
• RGB 0,0,0 / #000000 black can't be used. For black, please use RGB 0,0,1 / #000001 instead.
  
• All the RGB values of "SHADOWS" need to be lower than the RGB values of "MIDTONES," and all the RGB values of "MIDTONES" need to be lower than the RGB values of "HIGHLIGHTS."
  
• Keeping a backup of your custom palette(s) is a good idea!
Frames:
• The frame is the border around the game window.
  
• You can create a new frame by making a copy of the default.png, which is located in the frames folder. The name of the file will act as the name of the frame.
  
• The frame file dimensions must be 320x138.
  
• The frame can only use pure red (RGB 255,0,0 / #ff0000), pure green RGB (0,255,0 / #00ff00), or both. These colors are changed to the game's color palette during runtime.
  
• The background of the frame needs to be transparent, and the format must be PNG.
  
• Keeping a backup of your custom frame(s) is a good idea!
Textures:
• The texture is the pseudo-ASCII numbers overlay on the game.
  
• You can create a new texture by making a copy of the default folder, which is located in the textures folder. The name of the folder will act as the name of the texture.
  
• The texture file(s) dimensions must be 1280x552.
  
• The texture must be white (RGB 255,255,255 / #ffffff) on a transparent background, and the format must be PNG.
  
• Don't use too many animation frames.
  
• Keeping a backup of your custom texture(s) is a good idea!

• Make a copy of the dialogue_english.ini file and rename it to your language, for example, dialogue_finnish.ini.
  
• Open the copied file with a text editor (I'm using Notepad++), and make sure the encoding is set to UTF-8 (without BOM).
  
• The first item to localize is line 1=english within the [int] group; this appears when you select the language after the game boots up.
  
• Don't translate the [group] names, such as [part_01], [part_02], etc.
  
• You can add yourself to the credits by filling out the blank item 25= in the [credits] group. This line is displayed at the end of the credits.
  
• It's a good idea to keep a backup of your localized file!

• The game has limited space for text, so avoid too long sentences.
  
• The game uses a fantastic Silver font by Poppy Works. This font offers excellent support for Unicode glyphs and characters; however, if it lacks any, could you try to rephrase the sentence using alternative wording?
  
• Unfortunately, RTL reading languages aren't supported.
