Intention of Unfolding
Is Unfolding intended to be an actual game engine focused on an specific genre ala RPGMaker or a creation game like Little Big Planet/Mario Maker?

The name tells me the former, but the videos the later, so which is it? Are people supposed to, eventually, be able to use the engine to make stand alone games or will they always be tied to unfolding?

The aim of it is to allow people to make people be able to make their stand alone games. I'm making tools in the program to be able to make stand alone programs so that they can export it out and anyone would be able to play it on without the need for Unfolding to be installed - it would be all through the exported program. So its a weird mesh of both systems.

So, I noticed this is a basically a game maker game and thus be limited by what that engine can do, I also wonder if it wouldn't be better to just give people the possibility of of just importing it on GM to compile it if they chose to do so.

The platforming feels worse than something straight out of a Shaun Spalding tutorial, lots of collision issues with anything but perfectly flat terrain.

It's still way too early to give any real feedback since it seems that atm it's just a level editor with nothing but terrain.

With the project being written on GMS:2 I’ve found for the scope of the project it’s more then enough for what can be done. It has some annoying pipelines for doing things but I’ve always been able to get around it. As for the importing the source file I might release the source of the it in a few years but part of the final vision would be multiplayer, Steam workshop support. Part of the goal is to keep the community together and if there are multiple versions of it the community scatters to different versions. As well as there are users that wouldn’t know how to do it create inaccessibility issues.

Also I agree with the platforming being awful it needs a lot of work which in later builds of the software will get fixed up to fix many of the issues.

Also as the project advances more features will be added in making it more indepth.

Fixing platforming issues should be the top 1 priority, then adding combat and enemy ai so people are able to make something reminiscent of a game.

The crafting system in particular I feel it's way too early to have that, plus the background layer setting with the planets and stuff, just let people upload their own background.

You probably should look into the Hello Mario Engine and their Hello Editor, I feel like what they have is pretty similar to what you are aiming for.

I’ll make it so there is more options with the planets down the line, also I’ll check out the hello editor thanks for suggesting it to me

Very ambitious! I hope you achieve this worthy goal.

Perhaps it will become what I _wished_ Pixel Game Maker had been... ; - )
