History: As you cross the sea between Arboria and the Imperial Demense, you see a white beach covered in sand. As you get closer, you see more. Wind-swept plains, craggy mountains, dangerous ravines, quiet beaches and giant rocks. Welcome to the Duchy of Aeridor, home to one of the greatest cities in Laurentia. Its city is filled with free-thinkers, artists, philosophers and warriors. The castle itself is on top of a large hill in the middle of the city, surrounded by the sprawl of houses on all sides.
Aeridor's military is mainly made up of longbowmen and hoplites, using long spears in a phalanx formation, with rounded steel shields. The bowmen are using bows made from Aeridorian wood, a unique and strong substance that is almost unbreakable by steel. They also have a strong naval presence due to their coastal nature. Aeridor is currently ruled by Duke Jonathan Joestar III.
Aeridor’s military is focused on small numbers but highly elite units, attempting to out-class their opponents on the battlefield. No one exemplifies this better than Aeridor’s knightly class, the so-called Knights of the Realm, armed with the finest armour, muskets and longswords and shields for close combat, riding the Duchy’s fastest and strongest steeds.
It can be said that Aeridor’s greatest strength is not its military, but its culture. The city itself is home to great artists, musicians, philosophers, poets and writer. Aeridor possesses considerable wealth and power within the Empire, a voice always heard on any council, an opinion always asked for.
The Duchy celebrates numerous festivals throughout the year, including the festival of fire and the celebration of peace.

Counties of Aeridor

Aeridor - The province of Aeridor forms the bulk of the Duchy's coastline, with the capital of the Duchy, Aeridor itself, being on the western tip of the Aeridorian peninsula. Here, the Duke himself has his seat as the ruler of the Duchy. The city itself is large, with tall white walls and a central hill upon which sits a castle where the Duke keeps his eat.

Centralis Silva - This province makes up the majority of the forest within central Aeridor. The Count of this province is responsible for the majority of the Aeridorian lumber, and therefore is very important. The County capital is De Ligno. Current Count: William Smith IV

Halls of the Dead / Est Arcanum Mortis: The Halls of the Dead are a tunnel system in the raised mountain in the north-east section of Centralis Silva.
It was once the underground stronghold guarding the centre of the Duchy during the Aeridorian Civil Dispute. It was overrun in 350 by a small army of rebels, who attacked and killed the defenders before help could arrive from the nearest city. When reinforcements finally came, the tunnels were infested by rebels, the entire stronghold turned to their advantage.
It took four months to thoroughly eradicate the rebels. Not a single survivor of the loyalist army was found. Corpses were scattered on the ground, forgotten. Some men had obviously been tortured before their inevitable demise, with a few crucified in the great hall. The Count of Centralis Silva and his family were mere skeletons, hanging by thick rope from the rafters, marks on their bones where swords tore through flesh.
Though the rebels were gone, the new occupiers refused to garrison there, fearing the angry spirits of so many dead. So they turned the huge labyrinth of tunnels into a grand tomb, encasing the bodies of the dead in walls. Those who could be identified were given signposts outside their new tombs, stating their name, age and rank. The Count, his family and his generals’ bodies were incarcerated deep within the mountain, forever giving peace to their souls. Their skulls, however, were set upon blocks of glowing stone, signifying their grand importance and rank. Ever since, the men and women of the Duchy's ruling family have been interred in the Halls of the Dead upon their deaths.
The entrance to the Halls of the Dead is a large Church, where peace is kept by the Guards of the Dead, black-armoured knights armed with pikes, swords and small hand-held crossbows. Inside the church is a library, and it is here that the heir of the Duchy is educated in how to rule.

Occidentali Campestribus - This province comprises of the greater plains in the western half of the Duchy. It is known for its military-focused populace, with many of the greatest families and greatest soldiers and knights hailing from the provincial capital of Urbem Armis, the city of swords. The western coast is geared towards the defence of the bay of Aeridor, and its borders to the west and north are heavily guarded and fortified. Many of the finest horses in the Duchy are bred here for the purpose of combat, with the special breed of steeds known as Equus Ieiunas being bred especially for the Duke's family, with some even serving as the steeds of Emperors. It is here that traditionally the heir of the Duchy is educated in warfare and honourable combat. The County capital is Urbem Armis. Current Count: Staedler Joestar XIV

Campos Orientales - This province is where the vast majority of the farming for the Duchy takes place. It is known for its heavy focus on agriculture, with many scenic views and streams within the county. Current Count: Yarren Joestar II

Silvis Orientalium - This province stretches the length of the Ingentes Lapidesis, the great stones. It is divided heavily by a north and south divide. The north is dense forest, with only one city ('Urbe solitudo') but packed with wildlife. The south is heavily cultured and defended, bordering with the Imperial Demense and Martslock, with many towns and cities and garrisoned with many of the finest soldiers. For generations, it has been ruled by the eldest male heir of the Aureo family. It is here that the heir of the Duchy is educated in culture and history, learning from the head of the Aureo family. Northern major city: Urbe solitudo. Southern major city: Portas Aeridor. Current Count: Titus Aureo VI

Manga Ingentes Lapidesis - This province comprises of the majority of the Ingentes Lapidesis mountain range. The predominant industry of the Ingentes Lapidesis is, of course, mining, with a thriving smithing community, producing some of the finest arms and armour in the Duchy, possessing great levels of technology, capable of producing firearms. The major city, known as Urbe Lapidem, the city of stone, is built into the side of the mountains. As a result the city has a good natural defense, even from the skies. Being a long distance from any other major city and with both main roads cutting through mountains, valleys and rugged terrain, traveling to and from Urbe Lapidem is one of the most treacherous trips for travelers. The city is split by a large running river and comprises two parts: Fluvios, where the native Aeridorians and the working district are found; and the Hinc Siccum, housing all the houses of Aeridorian nobles and commoners. The Count's court, Sublapide Keep, is located at the top of the city, built into the rocks. It is here that the heir of the Duchy holds court, ruling from his seat in the Keep, guarding Aeridor from the east as the Duke guards from the west. Current Count: Dio Joestar I
