honestly? probably little overtuned, BUT who doesn't love being a giga powerful vampire. the new tomes are sick and because the best parts are racial transformations it gives a LOT of build potential. blood maggots also synergize really well with the updated dark cult of death culture. really great update to the game along with the DLC.

my complaints about aow4 dlc are usually regarding price. like most of the DLCs aside from ways of war don't really offer an amount of content worth their price. but i think thrones of blood does a decent job of being as worth it as ways of war. i think the vampire ruler type has more options available that can significantly improve or be used to create new faction builds. i think the new tomes are great and i love the spread of having 1 tier 1, 1 tier 3, and 1 tier 4 tome. a much better price:content ratio than say the giant king dlc.

edit: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lol. i did NOT expect 1v1 and 2v2 skirmish to be enabled that quickly. nice job devs. while certain aspects of my list are not yet updated, i'm swapping my review to positive purely because of how quickly the developers have solved one of the major issues with skirmish. incredible job.

okay. this is a MILD NEGATIVE REVIEW. EXTREMELY MILD. the reason i am creating this negative review is because i have found time and again the best way to get my voice heard by devs is via my review. so here's me shooting my shot. will switch to positive once updates are made. yes i know these updates are listed on the store page, but some of these should have been included as important "on launch" features.

everything once you are in game is incredible. it's exactly like the world in conflict i loved so much. even better tbh. i have no complaints so far about gameplay.

HOWEVER. there are some items missing from this RTS that i would consider non negotiable for an RTS released in 2025.

1. there's no 1v1 skirmish vs ai so you can test decks and stuff.

2. you can't put bots on your own side so you can't have 3v3 with bots on both sides.

3. you can't individually choose the difficulty of each AI "player"

honestly, a near-perfect remaster. has everything i loved about the original oblivion but it's 10x more stable. i have played 39 hours so far, i have crashed 2 times. in original oblivion i would have crashed 25+ times by now (even with the engine mod tweaks and other mods meant to make the game more stable).

my only gripes are minor VFX, UI changes, difficulty scaling, and two handed weapons. the last two are fixable via mods.

- VFX issues: there are quite a few spells that "bug out" their visual effects. light spells don't work half the time. invisibility glitches out and parts of your character will remain visible/invisible until you load the next area/restart. same for the fire shield effect

- UI changes: small things like how you now need to press H in the inventory to see what soul is in a soul gem. really tedious ♥♥♥♥ that adds up over a playthrough.

- difficulty scaling is completely wack. unless you plan on playing adept difficulty, highly recommend using a difficulty option from this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/58?tab=description

- two handed weapons attack slower than they did in original oblivion, but don't deal singificantly more damage. therefore it's just a huge dps decrease from OG oblivion. here's the mod that fixes that too. https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/553

like i said though, these are minor, some easily fixable, gripes. it's still an amazing remaster and oblivion at its heart

i think the content is good, but i'm not going to give a thumbs up to DLC i think is overpriced. even with the extras added to realm generation, i think it's a little ridiculous to ask $25 for a new ruler type, 2 tomes, and then a lot of realm generation options/events that you might not experience in every game. and some of the realm generation changes (like the changes to lava terrain) are free anyway pretty sure.

i think $15, or $20 IF the DLC had come with 3-4 tomes, would be more fair to the consumer.

ways of war added a full on culture and FOUR tomes for $10 less. ways of war should be the standard for content:price ratio for AoW4.

performance bad but bearable

story bad.

game can be too easy with a weapon that can guard (IMO) since 99% of attacks can be easily guarded and then you call your mount to heal if needed. game has also gotten easier due to "focus mode" making melee combat a lot more fluid and streamlined. which is great. it really is. it feels great to be able to "aim" while in melee. but it's still the same ol' monster hunter. so the hunter is just absolutely juiced now while the monsters are like MH world monsters.

it's still really fun though. just cause i don't lose any hunts doesn't mean i don't enjoy myself. in fact, because these hunts are so easy i feel more incentivized than ever to try weapons i've NEVER used before. and that's awesome. if you are on the fence, wait until some optimization patches and/or the title update coming in april to add a smidge more content. worth at full price if you have friends to play with. if you're only solo i'd wait for a sale or more patches. lots of the fun of the game is juggling aggro, resources, healing abilities/buffs (depending on weapon, etc. so solo is a tad lackluster in comparison.

while the launch isn't what i had hoped for, when this game's expansion does come out (which will probably be crawling with insanely hard monsters due to all the feedback lol) i think i will enjoy this monster hunter the most by far.

history in the game and history in the making. one of the most immersive games and experiences i've ever played. if you liked the first game, the 2nd game is all of that, but better.

one of my favorite RPGS i've played and i'm not even 5% done with the main quest yet lol.

review will remain negative until they remove the "stat bars" on weapons and bring back the damage numbers in payday 2.

an absolutely RIDICULOUS step back in transparency and information for the player. i can't think of a logical reason for the step back besides them just being lazy. now i have to google weapon stats. so stupid.

recent earnings calls from other corporations has made me realize my steam review, potentially, has more weight than i previously thought. so, with that in mind...

will change to positive when stealth melee kills are fixed up, they add a y axis sensitivity slider for mouse, and general input lag is solved.

the ability to have the HUD "always on" would also be nice too

edit: dev has stated their AI behavior system "A-life" is not working. which is supposed to simulate life in the zone and mak the game more immersive https://imgur.com/a/aWdIOcn

they just don't miss.

i hope this game gets even more DLC because once every DLC has dropped, this game will just be the PREMIER fantasy 4x game only behind total war warhammer. the sheer variety of units, tomes, society traits, cultural units, and more make every scenario an entirely different experience. and this DLC is no different. it's incredible how much depth this game has now and i will gladly keep paying for DLCs that bring this much content to the game.

good job triumph.
