Haven't enjoyed a game this much from a pure fun perspective since Devil May Cry.

Let the record show that this is a BETA. This beta showcases a single of the COOP modes that are planned to appear in Survive and it does so splendidly.

Synopsis

Players have to defend a drill as it collects Iris energy against 3 waves of crystalized zombie-esque creatures. They are free to build walls, towers, and turrets to aid in the defense and trust me when I say that you will need them. Harder difficulty missions can push a team to their limit if they go in unprepared. Players can choose between Sledgehammers, Spears, Machetes and other melee weapons to defend against the horde. Bullets for guns must be crafted and thus are to be used sparingly or when absolutely necessary. Side ops appear throughout the mission and during downtime in between waves to supply the team with much needed resources.

Pros

The enemies are beautifully designed. It has been leaked that people who have formerly designed Silent Hill creatures have worked on the enemy designs for this game and that is a major plus.

The controls are very very nice and can help you quickly switch between things needed....... once you finally learn them (more on that later)

The latency issues of MGO seem to have been addressed which makes the game feel smooth and was most likely a much needed fix in this, a PVE game.

The level design. Yes I know that the levels are essentially reused MGSV locations but they have been greatly altered and the alterations do the game so much justice. Areas that were just square locations with vasts amount of nothingness have more meaning which is a plus in my book.

The combat feels smooth. Though starting off with just a poke can be a bit of a turn off, once you get some skills under your belt, the real fun begins. It soon feels very Dead Rising which does the game great. Spears feel a bit too much like the smart choice when compared to axes or hammers though. So hopefully something gets done about balancing in the near future.

The UI and Idroid feature wonderful survival mechanics such as water and food management as well as a Survival Viewer reminiscent of MGS3(with the noises too)

The customization of characters themselves isnt all too varied but armor types are all over the place. From heavy chest pieces to light scarves and shorts. They can even be customized. You can color individual armor pieces to your hearts content and make fun wacky designs or rock your favorite colors at will.

Cons

The crafting menus, though simple once gotten used to, are very cluttered and all over the place at times. It can really turn away any new player who isnt willing to take 5 minutes to get well accustomed to the 5 types of crafting benches and their menus.

No bulk crafting(that i know of). You have to hold space for ages if you want to craft 50 rounds of ammo or anything really. The game could really do with bulk crafting of a sort as it can be a bit annoying personally.

The weapons. Similar to a Pro i have listed, any weapon that isnt a spear or stun rod feels really lackluster. It can be a bit dull not having anything to draw me to the other neat designed weaponry.

(I will expand both pro and cons list as i play the beta more and more)

Special Mentions!

The dev team behind the game has been confirmed, due to leaks, to contain some real allstars and veterans of the series. Ranging from level designers from mgs3 and peace walker, Story writers from MGS4, PO and PW, to creature designers from Silent Hill.

This link contains a few of the names that were recently leaked in a 1 hour gameplay video that got shortly taken down by Konami.

A leaked trophy list also confirms that the game will have other COOP modes. One called HUNT and another one consisting of Raid style bosses, though they may be the same thing. So dont quote me on that.

The people going out of their way to bash the game for using the Diesel engine arent doing the game justice tbh.

The gunplay is satisfying and gameplay doesn't hold your hand as much as it does in Payday.
The characters actually speak and banter throughout the missions unlike in payday which is honestly a super lovely touch.
The Live-Action endscreen cutscenes add a sense of humor every now and then.
Each weapon feels distinct and the upgrades are earned through a per-gun based challenge system.
Missions feel mostly fair and are very fun, especially with friends.

On the negative side, the game can be somewhat buggy. None of the bugs present as of right now though seem gamebreaking and almost all of them tend to be wacky or funny. Almost every bug I see people complain about here are present in payday 2 yet I rarely see anyone upset about them there.
The Grind is a bit of an issue though. It can be absurd and the fact that each character has to be individually leveled can make players sort of forcefully play a single or at most 2 classes the the fullest.

The biggest problem with the game is, however, the absurdly high pricepoint. Its a fun game and one can get hours and hours of fun but a game of this caliber being priced so high sadly scares players off (Similar to Friday the 13th). Yes it has a decent amount of content, but not enough to fully justify the high price.

If you can stomache the price, get it. You'll have fun.

This is a tricky game to review honestly. Its honestly an amazing game and I have not once at all regreted my purchase, but it has enough kinks and problems that it can easily drive away people who have certain expectations.
Let me make this clear. THIS IS NOT A GAME YOU PLAY TO BE SCARED. THIS IS A FUN MULTIPLE PEOPLE AND FRIENDS GAME SINCE MICS ARE VERY MUCH IMPORTANT AND ADD SO MUCH TO THE EXPEREICNE>

First of all, the game is only worth the 40 Dollars if you make it worth that and happen to enjoy it that much and to many that simply isnt the case. With the most recent patch, they made certain aspects of the game more viable. For example they nearly took away all of Jasons invincibility frames EXCEPT for when hes stunned or killing. So the problem of having a half second window is gone since he can get hit while grabbing.

Every match boils down to a certain formula but how it happens and who does what changes with the lovely concept of multiple objectives. The game also emulates the movie trope of people dying because they split up and go it alone well. If you can group together, you can give Jason a tough time but only if no one panics.

Jason is very very strong and that is a good thing. He is meant to be the killer that is taking down all of the counselors. So there is no concrete way to just steamroll a jason.
Jason is meant to kill people and the game is meant to have people die. Sometimes it will be you. It sucks but its how the cookie crumbles. You are not always meant to live and sometimes his powers will make it impossible for you to live. In this case all you can do is stall through any means necessary. learn to accept you arent the hero of the story(unless youre Jason)

The game has bugs and problems but its honestly a blast of a game. Some people do honestly complain too much about certain things but with that price tag the anger is understandable to an extent.

Definetly one of those games you should buy if you arent poor.

Chapter 2 does an amazing job of filling the player with both dread and intrigue, more so than the first chapter. The only downside is you dont really get your moneys worth TIME-wise, but experience wise its genuinely fun and at times dreadful (the good kind expected in horror games). The ink creatures were, for example, very nicely placed. Only problem with them being that it isnt properly explained what is happening with them. For a while I was convinced the cans were health but eventually i began to feel they were just there for the achievement.

Fun game all and all and I will definetely be buying part 3 when it releases.

People are being too hard on this game. Its a fun team FPS.
Yes the hit Registration is wonky as hell, but it wont ruin your overall experience. Skill will still win.
If you dont enjoy games like COD, dont bother with this game. But if you dont mind sensless shooting with occasional bits of strategy, this is for you.

If you're a fan of Rogue-likes and western games, you're sure to love A Fistul of Gun. Never before have I been so satisfied with being called an Erotic Badger.
