Amazing how someone in 2016 can take a game engine released in 2013 which ran fine on 2013 hardware and completely botch it to where it doesn't even run above 50FPS with hardware from 2019. Garbage!

The Xen levels are downright abusive. The first 45 minutes is OK, but then all of a sudden it's like they changed development team. It went from 2016 graphics to 2007 graphics. Yes I realize that's when development of this game started. Still, it was obnoxiously tedious and nauseating to get through. The only reason I played them is for the final boss fight. Did no one take a step back and think to themselves.. "this isn't Half-Life" ?

Avoid like the plague until the game is "OPTIMALIZATIONED" (an actual word the devs used). More than likely all the HDR, shading, and motion blur effects that were added will have to be removed because they don't know how to work with them.

BY THE WAY - most of the new cars are re-done versions from 2015, and the only REAL cars are the Mazdas and Dodge's which are only accessible through release day DLC.

Overall I liked the game.

Graphics
Great graphics with detailed levels. Supporting characters are a little bit underdeveloped in the looks department.

Sounds
Amazing sound track, stomach turning horror movie sounds

Gameplay
I find the gameplay and controls to be adequate. On my playthrough, I refused to use any psy-powers. (because quake, f-you) I enjoyed the gun mechanics, but the melee left a little bit to be desired. Wish it was less RPG and had more of a combat game balance

Level design
I enjoyed the EVA portion of the game, and although I'm not sure as to whether the external station model coincides with the internal model, it seemed massive and well thought out. there's plenty of secrets in space to find. My favorite part of the level design was that a Nightmare can spawn anywhere and follow you into a small area where you can commence shotgun rape. Theres a lot of dynamic level design going on, which serves the game well because you will be revisiting areas (even side quest locations) more than once.

Story
For me, the story was a bit disappointing. It felt unpolished, hastily written, and even the cutscenes reflected that. Like the studio made this amazing space station for a game with no story, then added one in last minute. I won't spoil why I didn't like it, but I don't think it should deter anyone from playing the game. I resorted to telling my own fear driven story by playing it in Hard mode first time through. (Don't be scared to do this, it adds to immersion)

Summary
I enjoyed the immersion in this game. The feel is definitely meant to be more horror than shooter (how I played it) but wil acommodate many different playstyles. I can compare it to Alien Isolation (apart from Bioshock and Dishonored, obviously) in the feel of the game's narrative, but not the art style.

The playability of this game after 2 years is marginal at best and is inexcusable for a game that costs $34.00. Development on improving the massive issues it has had for almost 5 years is slow if not non-existent.

One of the best single player games I've ever played.

It's a day Z clone. Does it run well? Sorta. It's a beta. Much more enjoyable than the clusterf**k that comes from Bohemia interactive.

As soon as dedicated servers come, I think it might be worth a try. For now, i'd rather play minecraft.
