I enjoy it, but it's not what I like in my survivor likes.

A big part of survivor likes for me is how your movement and positioning can manipulate your weapons, think shadow pinion from VS. This game has none of that. Each weapon largely behaves the exact same, the only thing separating them is stats and whether they're a ranged or melee weapon.

Still fun all the same.

Decent tower defence. Yet like everyone else: performance is a massive issue. There comes a point each run where you are just hoping your defences fall apart, yet you don't have the heart to quit out because 'just think how much of the meta resource I can get from this run!'.

Have to say, I don't feel ripped off after getting this at a discount. There really is something here, and you can see the dev knows that too. Decent fun for £2.

Maybe I just didn't understand this game, but the way I see it I was mislead.

The horror just isn't there, exploration really isn't that fun - more punishing than anything, the puzzles were okay at best, and the story exists.

I wasn't tense, I never got scared - and I assure you this isn't a brag, I'm a wuss. But I just got nothing from it. Not even the Silent Hill enemy types did it for me.

Exploration was meh. My major issue is there was little reason to thoroughly explore locations. Typically, in RE and games of its nature, there'll be that door, chest or whatever that you find early on in the game, but can only open it with a midgame key or some such. Once you do, you'll get a special upgrade, ammo, or something just exciting. This game had the bare minimum. I only had this opportunity once. Even then it was something very hard to miss. I say punishing as on top of having little reason to explore, this game features what are essentially the crimson heads from the RE1 remake. I never minded this in RE1, as often it was worth the risk to return to old locations, as there was often some incentive to do so. Essentially, all exploration is locked in with progressing the main objective, and that for me just does not feel rewarding in the slightest.

The puzzles were fine. I can't help but feel people gush over them due to the fact that they feature a variety of perspectives: first person, fully animated etc. I can agree that its cool when it occurs, but like holding hands in Fable 3 - What does that actually offer the gameplay? Stylistically, I can see it but mechanically it does bugger all.

The story was there. Though it's one of those games where the whole point is giving you something to go on, and leaving you to fill the gaps. Personally, its not for me. They didn't give enough for *me* to go on. But its difficult to criticise something I hadn't fully understood.

It's such a shame being a fan of survival horror games and just not connecting with this title. I was really looking forward to giving it a shot, yet I'm disappointed.

I understand this game is marmite for the survival horror community, but I have to say this title hit every note for me.

There are mixed opinions on Conscript's combat, specifically its difficulty. Yet I think being limited to first world war weapons, many of which needs cocking after each shot, really adds to the tension of the combat. It made movement and planning ahead of combat vital.

The horror is fantastic. It finds the perfect balance between tension and ease. The atmosphere is oppressive through its art style, music and writing. To say this project was mostly developed by one person is astoundingly impressive.

Where I do agree with the complaints, however, is backtracking and story. There is a ton of backtracking, which some would say is typical in this genre; and I would agree, but this title turns that dial to the max. It made the speed upgrade you can purchase midway through the game basically essential. I think the game could have really benefited from having compact maps with more opportunities to create shortcuts. Perhaps fewer locations would have benefitted it too.

For a named character with a personal interest in the objective in the game he has incredibly little to say. I would have connected far more with the protagonist were he more vocal, and we learned more about him - not just his brother.

Overall, I sincerely enjoyed this. Well worth buying if a survival horror title with an unusual setting really speaks to you. I for one cannot wait to play this again.

The Room but scifi. Little else to say about it. It's fine.

Significant upgrade over the previous entry. I fully enjoyed this.

Great selection of weapons, varied enemy types that require different strategies, multiple bosses, clever puzzles, rewarding exploration, replayability with multiple endings, innovative in its shooting mechanics. It is sincerely hard to fault - though it could do with more horror, if that's the sort of thing you're interested in.

Well worth a go.

Decent Resident Evil-lite.

Hardly anything ground breaking. Puzzles are good, mansion is fun to explore. Combat really isn't anything special, having only a pistol that you upgrade over the game. The horror is very light, don't bother playing if you're looking for spooks. Story is very much your typical RE-esque bioweapon stuff.

If you have an itch for a survival horror game without the horror, try it out.

Great stuff but could really do with some rebalancing. Some builds are simply just stronger than others.

Fantastic until the end.

SPOILER:
Is it really necessary to throw the player right back to the start of the game after getting the bad ending? It's certainly a small nitpick, but it is something that put a sour taste in my mouth in an otherwise stellar survival horror. Once I began the second play through, it just got tedious. Enemy placements were the EXACT same, and after just playing through the entire thing (only about 4 hours) it's no brag to say that it takes away from the fun, and the horror. I loved this game, but felt unsatisfied that I got no credits, but instead thrown to the beginning to do everything again - correctly this time. Even that can get tedious, as there is no way to swap characters outside of death. It totally takes away from the immersion to have to sacrifice characters after they have quite literally outlived their usefulness.

Aside from that, this game is brilliant. The shooting feels impeccable, especially for a debut indie title. The horror is brilliant, the mansion is great fun to explore. Everything is simply terrific. Please just find a better way of swapping characters.

If you're a survival horror fan, absolutely give this a shot. It's more than worth your time.

Another game where I wish Steam had a 'thumb to the side' rating. This has to be the most serviceable immersive sim I've played. It is the epitome of okay.

Normally an immersive sim introduces unique mechanics that allow you to get creative. This doesn't. It's Prey without the glue gun, it's Dishonoured without the blink ability, it's Cruelty Squad without the grappendix, it's CTRL ALT EGO without the robot possession. There's near no opportunity to get creative here, outside of making some limited jumps with the jetpack and boots.

But it is no where near a bad game. Everything's there, and it all functions fine: I didn't experience any bugs, the voice acting and writing was decent, the maps were detailed. Yet it was still a snoozefest. It desperately needed something to make it shine outside of being a good remake of a classic immersive sim.

Play it if you've got an immersive sim itch to scratch, not if you're looking for the next best immersive sim.
