Hunt: Showdown is the perfect game for people who think “fun” means wading through ankle-deep mud while something hisses at you from a bush. It’s a tactical FPS that lets you and your buddies become the most stressed-out bounty hunters in 1890's Louisiana, where every twig snap feels like a death sentence and every crow you spook immediately ruins your career. The sound design alone deserves an award, mostly for making me jump out of my chair because a horse corpse decided to wheeze at me.

The real magic of Hunt, though, is how it somehow makes every kill feel personal. You can outplay another team with perfect strategy and nerves of steel, or you can trip on a bear trap and get third-partied by a duo that was arguing about who gets to loot your body. Either way, it’s glorious chaos. The guns feel heavy, the tension is real, and the satisfaction of surviving with your bounty is unmatched, unless you’re the poor soul who brought a melee weapon to a sniper fight.

And then… there’s The Assassin. The human-shaped collection of bugs that somehow manages to be both creepy and pathetic. Watching it explode into a hundred little knife-goblins is terrifying, right up until you realise it’s about as deadly as a toddler with a butter knife. You’ll spend more time waiting for it to stop skittering around the walls than actually fighting it. Honestly, if the bayou had Yelp, The Assassin would be getting one star for “showed up late, couldn’t land a hit, would not recommend.
