It's scummy that they want you to buy the same game for three times the price but I'm blaming this on Atari than the actual devs that worked on this so I would say that you should save and buy this on sale because the current price is not worth it but the game itself is good and I will absolutely dump more than a dozen hours or so.

Now, I want to start off to say that this is a decent mod but purely on the fact that it's just "good old fashioned TF2" with stock and some unlocks here and there. But I want to emphasize that this mod is inherently flawed in the way that despite claiming to maintain to TF2's vision during the specific era it's trying to do because this mod instead leans into this objectivist take of TF2 in this "classic" era because I feel that this mod fails in that regard than just gameplay. Since it's not consistent with the choices seen throughout the era it's trying to recapture and highlight as it's more like revising the better aspects the developers see rather than what we have to live TF2.

I frankly don't see a mod made with love or passion on the original vision of TF2 as they claim but instead a mod made out objective revisionism. Because outside of how vocally against some of those who worked on this mod are on by live/current TF2, they don't have a mod that even maintains what they seek to claim.

We have weapons missing that are of this era because the team do not agree with like the gunslinger and the eyelander. They have specific weapons that maintain post-nerf changes such as the equalizer but also weapons that are accurate to the era such as the sandman and the ambassador. This mod is mainly all over the place with these takes and changes that at the end of the day don't carry it along for longevity.

Because to many, there are multiple reasons you can or won't go to play this mod but if so that you can, exchange you give up a couple of decade's worth of content, items, maps and modes all for a fabricated simpler time that's forgoing "flashy gimmicks for zoomers."

So I say with emphasis that this is inherently not a bad mod because it just takes live tf2 and simplifies it but at the same time, it doesn't actually stay true to being accurate to the era it represents and certainly doesn't try to branch away because that's not what they want to do as they say.

At the end of the day, I see a cohesive decently packed mod because it takes mostly what made that version of TF2 good then and now but I don't see a decent mod with that much longevity to keep it thriving for long. It's a shame to me because if you want a mod to have the right to exist, you want to be on the terms of the players instead of shunning everyone else because you'd want a mod that appeals to the most rather than the niche.

This game sucks on nearly everything from the piss poor balancing, the lack of graphics settings, the pay to win format, and the abhorrent meta where you can't even stand a chance with some loser in an anime skin using 3 weapons.

This game may hold some nostalgia to me but it genuinely sucks now. You're better off starting first with optional crossplay.

This game brings out the psychotic tendencies out and damn do they make it fun to fulfill them out.
