Throughout my now 750 hours and growing playtime, this game has become immensely different from my previous review, it's community still holds up as a good one, despite becoming (from what I personally believe) intertwined with the wider community on Discord, mostly with the modding side, which has recently been more spread out as of late, seeing mostly the good, but also the bad, and the ugly.

Like any other community, there are some bad apples, with some I've interacted with, and have not enjoyed, though me talking about it would become an extremely lengthy vent, which I don't want, instead giving an overall, which will be divided into three parts.

It holds.. Relatively fine, vanilla holds up very well, at it's core, it's a game of like, chess persay, except it's a mix of those old tool assisted super smash brothers videos, flashy 2000s stickmen animation, and Tekken + you have a billion options to choose from on a very large board. If you like that, definitely give it a shot!

That's, kind of it, it has 1000% more than the demo version, or as we call it, Itchies, since the demo is on Ivy Sly's itch page. (styles, block strings, cowboy gun not being a hit scan, 2 new characters, modded characters being way more accessible, etc.)

It has evolved way much more than what it was in Itch, via not having frame one dragon punches, being somewhat balanced, whatever else, along with way more authenticity and visuals (just look at like, Adans n Illuko for Christ's sake), though it doesn't mean all of them are one to one with vanilla, all of them are definitely good.

Though, for the love of god, DON'T just install Jujutsu Kaisen mods, there are a lot of engaging mods to use other than them, at most times being BETTER than them, so just, yeah.

All games have their downsides, YOMI is not safe from this either, having many mods can cause loading in the game to be slower, sometimes being unable to load in characters after watching a replay, being stuck on lobby data requesting, characters becoming null and you having to clear character cache, game crashing for seemingly no reason, Ivy Sly accidentally setting ♥♥♥♥ that breaks the game, etc., though it's personally fine if it isn't obnoxiously frequent for me. though that may just be because I'm a bit more patient than most or something, idfk honestly

By no means do I think the community is a total mess, I've met some really cool people here, besides the occasional bad apple here and there, along with some of the messy drama which could've actually greatly crippled the community as a whole, the good outweighs the bad for me, though I'm not nearly as veteran as some people, only joining the Discord server in December, and playing around a month after the game released on February, it personally has been cool, though some things tend to get on my mind a bit.

Now the big question.



To answer that;

YOMI can be frustrating at best when you're just getting in and being destroyed by competent players, though it's quite easy to be humble, and try to learn, hell, reach out to some local pros in some of the Discord servers, they can probably lend out some basics, read some guides maybe, or even just, sink in some hours into YOMI, you'll definitely get better with time, as it just takes, well, time.

The replays always look satisfying too, along with the community, aside having the occasional bad apple, is really nice, all of which being required of you is to just, be nice n ♥♥♥♥, it has some pretty cool people here, some that are quite dedicated to the art of hustle, whatever, blah blah, they're nice people, shout out to Arceus, THExplosion, Fantis, Shaygar, Lam, and Hayaboso, you guys cool.

At the end of the day, if you like turn based, stickmen, cool replays, fighting games, and or chess, I absolutely recommend it, if you don't, I can somewhat recommend it, if you can't deal with bugs, depends if you like the above or not, if you can't deal with bugs but like the above, same thing as if you don't like it but can bear with bugs, if neither, then I cannot recommend it.

If you like animals, this is worth a shot.

If you are a furry, i'd recommend this, judging from the majority of the community is like you, that and the amount of "UwU"s i've seen in the in-game chat.

If you are a hardcore furry, going as far as having a fur suit, then pack your bags, this might be your new favorite, + IT'S FREE!

Seems like a good deal to me if i were you.

This game, after 300 hours, despite its 2D pixel art, no 3D models, nor 3D assets, no 3D at ALL, is a really good game inspired by melee, there is no grabbing, nor ledge grabbing, and no shields, instead adding wave dashing (Cause its inspired by smash melee) dodging, and counters.

All though, and i admit, its not really a party game and more of a "competitive" game, it can still be played like a party game all though its not gonna be really enjoyable experienced that way.

also workshop is a REALLY wild place that i love.
