Look Outside is one of the best games I've ever played. I don't really feel like writing a long review right now, maybe eventually I will. My only complaint is that solving some puzzles require extremely abstract thinking, and it can be extremely easy to miss some of these things. Aside from that, Look Outside does nearly everything write...it has amazing art, music, gameplay...it's really hard to fault this game. It's also absurdly cheap. I just buy this game if you're even remotely interested.

It really kills me to give Chapter 4 a negative review because there's so much it does right, but the bugs honestly prevent me from giving it a positive review, and the last bug patch was 6 months ago (as far as I can tell). I love the series, but yeah it's pretty inexcusable at how buggy and unpolished segments of the game are, but if you can look past that then I think it's absolutely worth it. It really pains me to give this review.

Darkest Dungeon is in a league of it's own. I truly can't stress how amazing this game is. Anyone saying DD1 is better is sadly mistaken. Full review coming soon.

Bakeru is a wonderful action platformer game filled with adventure that scratches that old Goemon itch

If you're like me then you've been wanting a modern Goemon adventure for many many years. I was skeptical when I saw Bakeru but decided to bite the bullet and gave it a shot, and I'm so glad that I did. In my review I'm going to go into various aspects of Bakeru, so I'll definitely have some spoilers in my review so I can properly talk about the game without restrictions.

Bakeru is a collectathon game that hits all the right notes, with the only real flaw being the extremely easy difficulty. I'll try to briefly touch on the positives and negatives of the game.

Bakeru does nearly everything right in terms of execution. The game is an action platformer, with more emphasis on action and combat. Every enemy is inspired by some facet of Japanese culture. The enemies are incredibly charming and cute, but there isn't really much to them other than smacking them with your bachi drum sticks. Every level has 5 pieces of interesting trivia (usually related to Japanese culture) unlocked by finding a tiny, cute little character named Scoop, who wears a yellow beanie and a yellow puffy jacket. Every level also has 3 souvenirs that are found in the map by breaking an object that resembles a Gachapon capsule. Later on certain levels have a hidden tanuki that transforms themselves into an object in the map, and the player has to identify those objects. This is accomplished by observing objects as you explore the map. They'll have a hint...for example, like a Soda Machine but it'll have tanuki logo on it. I found this mechanic really fun, but the game does little to explain how to find these hidden tanukis... I thought this was a dropped ball, as I searched my first map for an extremely long time and didn't know where to look.

Early on you're able to use a power called Henge! Every Henge gives Bakeru different abilities that are helpful during battles, or useful for discovering items in a map. I personally felt that the Henge's weren't balanced well and were extremely strong, with the Fishing Rod Henge being significantly stronger than all of the other abilities. I also felt that the Henge resource meter depleted too quickly, but there's a way to adjust that much much later in the game.

Every level is a unique, handcrafted experience, and you can really feel the love that went into the game. It's so fun to see what the next stage is going to be. I never really got bored because the levels kept everything fresh and exciting. Later on in the game there are giant kaiju boss battles in the form of a boxing match. This was so refreshing to see...I really feel as if Bakeru celebrates everything Japanese, and it's such a celebration of Japanese folk-lore, and culture. I think the level design was top notch. Sometimes you're on a beach level, or a lava level...other times you're on a construction site. Some levels are similar thematically, but almost every single level introduces something new and beautiful to look at.

The enemies in the game are based on Japanese folklore creatures. It was super interesting to see what creatures would come next. I think every enemy feels extremely polished, and interesting but there definitely could have been variety in the enemies. There are tons of enemies, but by the end of the game I felt as if I've seen every enemy hundreds of times each and really felt some repetition. The game also mixes it up with interesting but short shmup levels, and racing-type levels. Every boss fight was such a cool experience. I personally enjoyed the kaiju fights the most, and Bakeru really tapped into the power fantasy of piloting a giant robot.

The music in the game is absolutely glorious. I can't stress how perfect the music is. The music of the game makes use of Japanese instruments, and really sets the stage for exploring a beautiful reimagining of Japan. I'll definitely be listening to the soundtrack for a long time. Towards the end of the game, I did start to also feel like I've heard every song multiple times, along with enemy repetition...but yeah the music brings me right back to playing Goemon on the N64. There really isn't much more I can say about it

Bakeru is an extremely polished game. I honestly felt it was Nintendo-levels of polished, and when I looked up Good Feel's other games, I was surprised to see that they worked on actual first party Nintendo games like "Princess Peach: Showtime!", but it honestly wasn't that big of a shock considering how great Bakeru feels. The movement, the level design, the music...the everything feels great.

To wrap things up, Bakeru is absolutely a game worth playing, but the game is extremely easy. Bakeru absolutely scratches that Goemon itch, and I'm not really sure why people would say otherwise. I'm not really a list guy, but I'll list some of the pros and cons of the game

Pros
Unforgettable soundtrack
Great level design
Interesting enemies and boss fights
Collectathon reminiscent of old GameCube games

Cons
As great as the music is, it gets a bit repetitive towards the end of the game
Enemy variety - I don't think there were enough enemies to keep the game going
Difficulty - this is actually my number 1 issue of the game. The game is just way too easy as it was probably intended for a younger audience.

Mouthwashing is all style no substance

I'll try to explain my feelings on this game. It's honestly hard to explain this game without giving away too much, so my review might have some mild spoilers.
If I could quickly summarize the type of story this is, I would say it's your classic cabin fever story, but it brings almost nothing new to the table in a horror trope as old as time.

I think the visuals of the game are great, and I think that's probably 99% of the reason that this game exploded. The story on the other hand is an absolute mess. The gameplay is sort of reduced to interacting with objects in the world until a surrealistic cutscene happens. You spend most of your time doing your typical walking simulator stuff. I think there's one puzzle in the game. I hit a point in the last half or quarter of the game where the game couldn't end fast enough. It honestly felt bloated to me to hit the 2 hour mark. The best comparison I could come up with is those segments of horror games towards the end where you're sort of in a dream sequence, and weird imagery happens...well that's probably 50% of the entire game, and it's exhausting to have to navigate these weird fever dreams. The other 50% of the gameplay is basically just gaining some sort of item and giving it to someone. I don't even think the dialogue is outwardly bad, but it's not really interesting either. The entire story is told out of order, so it becomes a bit of a chore to constantly jump between two moments of the story.

The payoff just isn't really there. The name of the game refers to a moment where the team discovers their cargo is mouthwash and they decide that drinking it is a good way to pass the time. This is such a disappointment to me, and I'm sure somehow this would be some big deep reveal for players. The entire time I was playing I was just hoping to not pass 2 hours so I could refund the game. If I genuinely enjoyed the game, I'd be happy to purchase the game, but so much of the game just feels like filler.

Just to wrap things up, Mouthwashing left a bad taste in my mouth. The game is extremely tedious to play, and the visuals are probably the only real saving grace that the game has. I think the game is way too short to accomplish what the creators wanted to do, but I'm also not convinced that a longer game would have been the answer as the story and gameplay where running on absolute fumes pretty early on. I would definitely avoid this game, and consider picking it up when it's significantly cheaper, or not at all. The beautiful classic PS1 horror aesthetics can't be the only thing that carries the game.

I'm going to write the same review for the 3 current games that are out. The first two games we'll call Park and Crisis.

I'll quickly give some backstory. The player is watching VHS tapes for the first two games, and using a computer in the third game.

The first two games are actually pretty tedious, and not really worth the time they take to complete. The third one is very interesting and fun.

The very first game "Park" consists of a camper walking around a camp site. There really isn't too much more to it than that. He eventually starts to hear what sounds like deer, but goes way beyond that into the supernatural. Park has some cool audio towards the end of the game, but for the most part is entirely devoid of gameplay except for walking along a dirt path. I think this game would have been more suitable as a YouTube video. The atmosphere is good, but there isn't really too much there, and my patience was wearing thin. I would give this game a negative review.

The second game "Crisis" mainly consists of controlling a female janitor from the POV of security cameras as she takes out trash, and washes dishes. Occasionally a creature sneaks it's way closer and closer towards her, and this is done progressively over the course of the game. I also think this game would have been better as a YouTube video as the gameplay isn't really compelling in any capacity. Once again, the atmosphere is cool, but the graphics also leave a lot to be desired as the models look pretty dated. I would give this game a negative review.

The third game is "Exam". I believe this game is easily the best of the three games, and has the most compelling story. The objective of the game is that the player is learning about the mysterious Entities by completing training modules on an old computer. This game also uses AI extremely well, and is a good example of what good use of AI looks like except for one of the doppelganger recognition segments - a guy's hair was obviously clipping which would be bizarre but he wasn't the correct answer for the question. This game feels very authentic and I loved it. I would give this game a positive review.

Final thoughts
There absolutely needs to be quality control at least when it comes the English version of the game. There are many typos which absolutely sucks the immersion out of these games as they're presenting as super official, top secret tapes and the English needs to flow perfectly and effortlessly. I would highly recommend having a native English speaker fix that up for future releases.

I think the game should also simply be called The Lancaster Leak and is occasionally patched with new installs as opposed to having 15 different games with different names, and the players are stuck trying to figure out the play order. It would be pretty nice to have it all in one location.

I would also hope that future installments focus more on lore, and less on walking deserted paths, and throwing out garbage. I think the third game "Exam" treaded this line extremely well. After the first two games I didn't really have any desire to play the third game, but after playing "Exam" I think I'll try the next installment.
