A disappointing and janky experience that starts on the wrong foot and never recovers:

My issues began in the main menu, which suffered from noticeable frame rate stutters and pop-in. For reference, I'm on a 9950X3D and a 4080, and I've seen players with lower specs report fine performance, so your mileage may vary. I run the game via the Steamlink app in the Quest 3 headset and I am not interested in running it any other way. I am not buying Virtual Desktop just to run your game as per your performance tutorials.

In-game, the movement feels off. As a VR veteran comfortable with all locomotion types, I was surprised to feel queasy during the rope-swinging tutorial. This was exacerbated by the unreliable controls, which frequently failed to register my grabs, making swinging a frustrating chore.

The bugs started early. After getting the slingshot, it didn't properly go into my backpack. I crossed a bridge, was confronted by a drone I was meant to shoot, and turned to find my slingshot was magically back across an impassable gap. This soft-locked my progress.

The enemy AI is some of the worst I've ever encountered, and bafflingly, there is no in-game menu. On a Quest 3 via SteamVR, the left menu button brings up SteamVR and the right brings up the Quest OS. No other button seems to open a game menu. Is this by design? Do I need to play up until I get the watch first just to change settings? I have no idea.

For a game with a near-AAA price tag, the amount of jank is unacceptable. I refunded with less than an hour to spare. Maybe it will be optimized and fixed later, but for now, it feels like paying to be a beta tester. Wait and see.

I hope I can vote for a 'worst game performance' award on Steam at the end of the year.

EDIT: I finished the game, but I only got this to play co-op with my partner. We had fun, but the performance was bad the entire time and I probably won't play this game ever again.

Cool game, runs terrible in Linux so I've stopped playing and given a thumbs down.

I can't really recommend this game as long as cheating remains rampant, a lack of surrender button, 5v5 being the default game mode. I'd like to be able to have 1v1 or 2v2's without setting up custom lobbies.

It is fun, there's potential here, the sounds, voice acting, graphics are all really nice.

There's so many units but no really clear way of knowing what units you need to counter others, it can leave you guessing as to why you won or lost a particular encounter.

No saving in single player and the cheaters with map hacks make any online RTS basically unplayable, especially this one that has a core gameplay focus around line of sight.

Happy to update my review if these issues are addressed, but I probably won't return to play it until anti-cheat is implemented.

I'll change my review when it works on Linux.

RESPONSE TO DEVS: Frostpunk also “isn’t supported on Linux,” yet it runs just fine with Proton. So what's different here? If you’re going to say it’s unsupported, at least ensure it’s not actively broken. Proton exists. Steam Deck exists. You know this. Fix the issues.

It's a mostly fun game but even after being out for years it still runs awful (with many reporting performance is getting worse which each patch) and it doesn't even have performance features that tiny indie games have like DLSS.

Early Access Review
It's baffling to see some reviewers daring to compare this vaporware to masterpieces like Sea of Thieves and Deep Rock Galactic! Either they're being overly generous, or they're not quite grasping the essence of what makes a game truly outstanding.
