I had fun in my first playthrough and got some genuine heart attacks.
Considering the following:
-the business pratices of the publisher MOB Games
-the fact that if you know what to do, this game literally is only ten minutes of content
I can't recommend to support this.

Now that the game is for free you can probably go for it.

Unplayable in it's current state if you don't want to get too "hacky".
You have to get a third party crysis.exe to get the game to run at all.
After I got the game to run I also encountered missaligned mouse coordinates which prevented me to change some settings and the resolution.

The game itself is still great after all those years.

Absolutely beautiful game! I had a lot of fun playing it and as others already mentioned: This really takes you back to the platformer / jump 'n' run games I grew up with like Jersey Devil, Ratchet & Clank and Asterix & Obelix XXL.
I really hope this game receives a DLC or a second part.
The colours and the lighting are also really stunning and give the game a great atmosphere. In contrast to that I think the unlockable skins could have received a bit more vibrant colours but that's a complaint on a very high level.

The only negative points I encountered is one minor bug (which made me restart one level), and that the game is maybe a bit expensive for the nine hours I got out of it. But still... this is probably due to the fact that this game is targeted towards a younger audience and therefore the relatively easy, but still very fun, gameplay.

7/10, would buy again

3/10
Toxic people annoying new players the whole time making it unplayable sometimes.
Losing loot to random events. (Ship sinking for no reason, explosions instantly destroying the ship)
Bugged loot crates which you can't pick up.
And why the hell am I on servers with crews of three or more? How is this supposed to be fair?

This game really needs a passive mode. I just want to do my missions and be left alone.
The only really great experience I had were some English guys approaching us, inviting me to their team and just sailing the sea togehter and do missions.
The rest of it was more annoying and felt like a chore.

First the positive:
-great graphics (prefer this style over the one of XXL 2)
-love the mechanics of the menhir which include Obelix more into the game
-fun mini games and puzzles
And that's about it.

To call this game the third part of the Asterix XXL series is a shame. It is nothing like any of the two previous parts.
-the fixed camera vision is an absolute disaster especially if you're playing with the keyboard and you're trying to navigate. I don't know if it was supposed to be innovative or if this is just lazy programming.
-you can't jump in this game. That even makes the game unplayable for me because I am stuck now in Rome and can't make a necessary jump.
-the controls of the abilities are unnecessarily complex. Why can't they just be each mapped to ONE single button? Again this makes it feel like a bad console port.
-fighting system just doesn't feel right. Kicking the Romans butts felt really powerful in XXL 1 and 2, here it is boring and absolutely unsatisfying.
-characters get stuck everywhere. Every bush, every ledge, every lance.
-magic potion is made weaker and therefore almost useless. That's probably why you have four of them now. I never used them in all the game. Again a downgrade from XXL 2.

As a big fan of the Asterix comics I absolutely loved Asterix & Obelix XXL 1 and 2. Those where the games I played for hours in my early teenage years and they still hold up to this day. I got really excited to see XXL 3 release exactly one year ago on Steam but was let down badly.

In Advance: I haven't played the DLC yet so I can only comment on the main game.

I am usually not that much into puzzle games but this one... this one is a whole different story.
One playthrough takes between 15 to 20h. I played the main game twice. The first time I didn't pay too much attention to getting 100% progress so it took me 16h. The second time I tried to get all the achievements and the game to 100% and this time it took me almost 20h and I don't regret a single one.

The game has a lot of interesting mechanics which make exploring the world a lot of fun. The more of those mechanics you unlock the more fun it is to explore this little sandbox. It really makes you want to get every last achievement of this game.

The graphics and references to other pop culture are great and you can feel the commitement that was put into this game every second.

The only negative for me was the Endboss because I couldn't figure out how to beat him. But maybe I jost had a brain freeze after playing the game for so many hours ;)

Pros:
+Mechanics
+Graphics
+Puzzles
+Fighting
+Looting

Cons:
-Endboss

Score: 5/7 would buy again
