this game is by far one of the single best games i have ever played. every single aspect of this game is a 10 out of 10; the graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack is stunning, the voice acting and mocap is top notch, the story is one of my favorite stories out of any game ever. it is one of my favorite games and if i could nominate any game for game of the decade, it'd probably be this one.

AS OF 2/10/2025, THIS GAME IS A BUGGY MESS. DO NOT BUY IT BECAUSE IT CRASHES EVERY SINGLE SECOND. THIS REVIEW IS WRITTEN AS IF GAME STABILITY IS NOT AN ISSUE.

Marvel's Spider-man is one of my favorite games of all time. As a long time Spider-man fan, i remember playing it on the original PS4 and not only being amazed by the graphics, but also loving the story, web swinging, writing, and just everything the game was, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart for giving me one of the best versions of Spider-man ever.
So when i heard that the sequel to Spider-man PS4 was coming out on PC, i knew that no matter what people were saying about it, i was going to buy it just for the fact that the first game was so good, and i wanted to see where the game's story went

did it live up to the first game? well, kinda

the gameplay is very fun, and 100% an improvement on what the first game did. the combat feels fully realized now, instead of mashing square and spamming gadgets from a web wheel you now have 8 abilities that you use by holding a bumper and pressing either A, B, X, or Y if you're playing on an xbox controller. it feels alot simpler and more fluid than a giant wheel of gadgets, it doesnt over complicate things, and id say its a better system by far.
it feels like it was what the first game was trying to do with its combat but fully realized
the web swinging is also improved, with the addition of a higher speed cap, a couple new moves like the loop de loop, and web wings.

the map is fine. its overall bigger this time around, giving you access to more of new york but overall has less things to do. its a blessing and a curse, because some of the things the first Spider-man had you doing were kind of teadious and just felt like a chore, but once you've blown through all the side content (which, while short, is still fun), theres really nothing to do other than just swing around and stop crimes in the city. i guess you can mod in things to do as well but like whos gonna do that LMAO.

the story is really where this game starts to fall apart. alot of people attribute this game's story not being good to the third act, and while i dont think its the only thing the game did wrong *cough* under-utilizing miles *cough*, i do think that its definitely where the game falls the flattest. in the first game, it felt like every single decision made by the devs story wise was intentional, and that everything, from dialogue to animations in the game, helped flesh out the world or relationships between characters or just the story in general. in the third act of Spider-man 2, it feels like that care for attention for detail is just gone. (im going to spoil the game a little bit here so if you care about spoilers, skip to the next section of the review) like for example, what is the rock, and whats its relation to the venom symbiote besides being with venom when it crashed onto earth? why did miles make a new suit out of nowhere? why did the remaining symbiote left in pete decide to affect him right at the town hall?

these may feel like insignificant questions but they're things that, if they were to happen in the 1st Spider-man, would have had an explanation, and without one it almost feels like things happen without a reason in this game.

and in addition to an alright story, this game has an aweful new game+ experience that i cannot overlook. the new game+ adds a couple new things. it adds variants for suits that normally didnt have variants (3 suits getting 3 new variants each) and they all look pretty cool, you can get upgrades that you normally couldnt get, AND you can get some snazzy looking gold skins for your gadgets. this sounds awesome, so why am i saying its aweful?
you need to 100% the game 3 times to get the materials to unlock everything (trust me, ive checked). for reference, to 100% it 1 TIME takes around 28 and a half hours to do according to howlongtobeat.com, so to truely get everything in the game, you need to spend AT LEAST 85.5 HOURS IN A SINGLE PLAYER GAME. this game is fun. i have 100% it at least once and on my second play through have beaten the new game+. it is not a game i want to play 3 times to get everything tho.

all and all, this game is good but it has some major flaws. if the game was a 10/10 (which it is), then this game is about a 6.5/10, and without the NG+'s AWEFULLNESS id say that it'd be a 7/10.
do i recommend that you buy this game? if its on sale? 100%, this game's combat and web swinging ALONE justifies the buy, and the story (despite my bashing of it's third half) has some moments that are easily my favorite out of all 3 Spider-man games. but if it isnt on sale then i guess that just depends, are you a big fan of Spider-man? if you are, then yeah, id say buy the game now and play it. but if you are indifferent to him and just want a game with a good story and dont care about story, just play the first game.
