Another case of "I wish I could have a Maybe option on Steam reviews" because the game is not bad but not great either. Forget the single-brain cell take of "tHiS iSnT sIlEnT hILL, tHiS iS wOkE gArBaGe!", the game's actual flaw is its combat. The story, the environments, the sound design, the characters, it's all good but the combat turns this into a slog. The combat mechanics are similar to Silent Hill 2 Remake's, with your melee attacks and dodging, but you get light and heavy attacks and a stamina mechanic. Sounds fine on paper but in practice, the combat is clunky and floaty and not really enjoyable, fighting more than one enemy at a time is cursed and some of the game's animations are too long, leaving you unnecessarily vulnerable, you can die while healing because Hinako HAS to take her time to bandage or swallow foods and medicine.

And the game has parts where you're forced to fight, which wouldn't be a problem if they weren't so freqquent, or if the combat was any fun. The puzzles, well they weren't exactly easy but I didn't have much trouble for the most part, even though I accidentally set the puzzle difficulty to Hard. Last one got me stumped but I got through the rest without needing to look it up.

Overall, good horror game, decent Silent Hill game but get it on sale, it's not as good or as familiar as SH2R but it's not a terrible game either.

As far as classic game compilations go, this is the best example. Sure, you got your library of old games you can play but there's also some kind of timeline you can follow, with the games placed between photos and interviews, it feels like an interactive documentary with fascinating interviews and stories from some of the pioneers and other veterans of the video game industry. It's very comprehensive, touching on each era of Atari from their arcade debuts to the later years of the company, with stories and tidbits about such major events like the 1983 video game crash and the burying of unsold Atari 2600 cartridges. Aside from all the playable games made by the company since their debut and the video interviews, there's also small remasters/remakes of classics, like Haunted House getting a 3D voxel take on the classic game or Yar's Revenge getting a pleasant makeover with more modern special effects on top of the blocky graphics. It's a great package and it makes me wish more companies would do stuff like that.

Be aware though that unless you're fascinated by video game history or you actually grew up with Atari, it might not be for you because the games are, well, primitive. Many of them were ingenious, ambitious even for their time but considering how spoiled gamers have been by modern technology, younger players might feel like they didn't get their money's worth with this one. I believe these old games should still be played by everyone, if only to know how it was in the 70s and 80s but they're very simple and don't have much variety to them.

That said, it's great journey through Atari's history and it's so great that they went beyond just throwing a bunch of old Atari games in and called it a day. Hell, they even made Swordquest Airworld, something they really didn't need to do but it's still a cool thing to do.

Bottom line, if you're a video game history nerd or just nostalgic, definitely get this. Make sure you got a few hours in front of you and just follow the lines, look at some pictures, watch some interviews and play some of those classics in-between. It's a fine compilation and I hope more video game companies take not.

I think the devs overestimate the intelligence and patience of the average gamer, the game's mysteries are hidden under layers upon layers of codes and cyphers that requires musical knowledge and other mental skills to solve. I think what they've tried to do here is kinda cool but it's tiresome. I'm sure there's a great murder mystery hidden somewhere in the 1997 portion of the game but there's only so much cryptic stuff I can take. And then there's the later threats that will keep trying to get you, even if you pause the game so you don't even get a moment to breathe and check the walkthrough to progress. It's an interesting idea but clearly not for me.

Early Access Review
I've wanted Crash Nitro-fueled on PC ever since it was announced, unfortunately, Activision are too afraid people won't spend money on the in-game store to unlock stuff, because mods. Well screw them, The Karters 2 is the closest we got and it does an incredible job. I've only got about 3 hours on this but so far, I'm really enjoying it. I thought it lacked the charm that the Crash Bandicoot universe had and that's understandable since Crash has been around for over two decades by the time Nitro-Fueled was released so it's probably not fair to compare The Karters to CTR in this regard. But it didn't bother me enough because the gameplay is incredible. It really took CTR's boost-based gameplay and leaned into it, it's a kart game casual players can easily approach but its skill ceiling is high enough for veteran players to really push themselves.

There's some downsides, though, nothing major but some things that annoyed me a little. First, the Challenge Mode is really dull, it's the same 3-4 courses every time. Don't get me wrong, they'Re good tracks but replaying them over and over again to unlock characters, karts and wheels gets old after a while and unlocking all that stuff feels pointless because of the number 1 thing this game's got going for it: MODS. There are TONS of different characters and karts on the workshop already as well as wheels, tracks and stickers. You can turn this into Mario Kart or CTR if you want and there are tons of characters from various franchises. You got your Spongebobs, Sonics, Marios, Shreks and the like, so you can pretty much ignore the Challenge Mode if you're not a completionist.

Another, smaller complaint is that there's no banter between the characters during the race, your character's is the only voice you'll hear. I really, REALLY hope the devs fix that, it's a little touch that would do a lot to make the game's soundscape interesting. Aside from that, I hope we do get an Adventure Mode, or something equivalent. Challenge Mode doesn't have enough variety and while Arcade is still fun with its plethora of game modes, an Adventure Mode with different challenges would be a welcome addition.

So yeah, definitely recommend this, it's a fine game, it's not very expensive and I don't think there's anything on PC that can even touch this. I can't wait to see future updates.

Worthless. Progression doesn't scale well with the bosses, I had to boost the material harvest so I can have a good amount of ressources in a reasonable amount of time, the map is dull as hell, the building mechanics aren't terrible but the camera doesn't let you actually admire it. and clearly, this dumb boss rush of a game is scaled for multiplayer so I wonder what's the point of not making it an exclusively multiplayer affair? It already feels like some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ action MMO.

Welp, that's a bunch of money wasted on a game and its DLCs and I can't get a refund. Screw it.

Cheap COD Zombies wannabe. Messy and confusing, you have to progress through the story and completing objectives while increasingly harder waves of enemies spawn every so often. The COD Zombie formula just doesn't mesh very well with the objectives-based gameplay, you can't catch your breath while trying to figure out where to go. Honestly, this should've been a cheap, simple arena shooter and even then, it's not very good at that.

Complete ♥♥♥♥. It's one of those games for masochists, meaning it's built around difficulty. If you get off on letting heavyweight prize fighters use your testicles as a punching bag, then you'll love this game. The rest of us who are normal, don't bother. Got this as part of the 13 bucks Humble Bundle and I feel ripped off.

Okay, I like the idea of this game, the voluntarily awkward controls, the grotesque artstyle, the humor ... but why oh why does this game need to have sequences where you have to hurry? The weird controls are difficult at the best of times but when you have to escape a swarm of rats while trying to remember how to control the arms, it just becomes impossible. The janky physics don't help, more often than not I've had an arm get stuck, losing me a few precious seconds while death came. And crawling along tight spaces is a nightmare, you can jerk the joysticks all you want but you're lucky if you can get half an inch forward.

sorry, I've played games with weird controls before, I enjoyed Octodad in the past. But Octodad didn't put me in a position where I had to hurry up while fighting with the controls. Not worth the five bucks I wasted on this.

Edit: To the guy calling me a clown with the Jester award: screw you, I'm right, the game sucks.

I greatly respect Nightdive for bringing back obscure classic shooters like this and Killing Time and they are talented people who deserve all the praise for the work they do, so I'm not blaming them for this game, I blame the OG devs who made this ... thing.

I played for 5 minutes before deciding to get a refund, you only need to play the first level to know that everything's wrong with this game. The controls, the level design, the monsters, they're all ugly and there's little to no cohesion between all these elements. The monsters have weird but uninspired designs, they are completely forgettable. The level design is horrendous, the ugly artstyle could be somewhat forgiven if the layout was good but it's not. And the controls feel weird and floaty, especially compared to other games Nightdive remastered. Again, I don't blame Nightdive, I blame the original devs.

Sorry Nightdive, you've put time and effort in this but this game is proof that even the greatest can't work miracles on a game that wasn't even decent when it was released. Still giving you props for unearthing some of those less well-received classics, even when they're as terrible as this one.
